So like I stated before the 84 turbo Z has been stting for quite some time. We did manage to get it started but now it is loading up on fuel, (bad). I am not sure where to start on this issue.

I have been researching previous post and see that the vacum hoses are a common spot to check and to diagnose the timing. It has sat for a long time with only a few run idles through out each year, so i am not tooo sure on it having a chance to jump time but I will check.

Is there any other ideas on where to look?

I put new plugs in and they come out covered in soft powdery black, signs of incorrecct tuning and loading of fuel.

The sun does alot of damage as it heats stuff that just sit around for years.

I would check the vac lines, timing, and pull the codes.

pull the vac hose off the fuel REG and start the car and see if its leaking fuel .

I'm taking that if the regulator leaks with the vacum hose off, the reg is bad.

how about cleaning up all the electrical connections under the hood? spray em with some contact cleaner and dielectric grease.

Most definitely!!! The vacuum lines will make or break how it runs for sure. I had the main cluster of lines come loose in one spot once on my 86 and it was barely running and loaded up very quickly. At first I thought I blew the engine it was so bad.

Ok, I will check those over tomorrow in the day time. I never knew these old cars had soo much dependence on vaccum lines. I kinda find ways to avoid all these issues with my other cars. thanks for the help.

I checked all the vaccum lines, the one coming from the manifold that runs to the fuel reg connection was not connected. The turbo waste gate vaccum line was glue, years of heat from the sun.

I hooked up the lines and the engine fired up with rev to 2g and idled back down. The boost gauge works now too.

the engine still seems to be loading on fuel, I will shut it off and it takes a lil while for the engine to start up again. I am planning to do a tune up on the ignition( plugs, wire, cap, etc.) hopefully that will help.

the brake calipers need replaced, the years of the feild rusted them down, they wont unfreeze and cause the brakes to overheat. Thats easy stuff.

I managed to get it to the school today before i realized the calipers would not release, and got it up on a lift. The driver floor pan is rusting out. I am going to have to replace the floor pan.

All in all the car seems to be doing fine for not seeing the road in 20 years. I plan on doing a basic restore, nothing fancy or over pricey. I will get what I need to work, working and look for some one who would like a 26 year old car with only 56k on it.

Undo the fuel rail from the intake roll it so you can see the injector tips, turn the key on to prime the fuel pump and inspect for a leaky injector replace 1 or all if needed

Black leather interior ?

Yes the interior is black, but the seat leather is destoyed on the outsides due to years of sun damage and no care.

The interior is in descent shape other than that, there are a few parts that need touched up.

I'm always interested in 84s that are getting back on the road!!! I also have an 84 that hopefully will be back on the road in the future. Mine has 179k miles on it and has electrical issues thanks to some mice!!! Unfortunately, it'll probably be a while. Good luck with yours and keep us apprised of the situation!!!

Well This car is not one of my favorites, I have another prime project car I have been working on already. Swapping an LS1 from a 1/1985 944 Porsche into a newer 1986 turbo 944 body.

My father-in-law got this car hoping to fix it up for his son's 16th birthday in 10 years. But he has no patients for cars at all. He had it started for 5 mins and the negative terminal was too corroded and split in two pretty much. He didnt want to figure out why it wouldnt start after that.

He said he just wanted to sell it so I grab it up, I mean its an 84 with 56K and it runs with a new battery terminal and some minor engine diagnostics, also Brand new tires all round that saw the road for the first time this last weekend for 2 miles to the gas station and back.

Most of the electronics work, the important ones do atleast (headlights, interior lights, horn, clock) The radio needs some help, it wont change from am to fm along with other minor things like that.

I figured I'd get it running and getting it looking descent not a full restore but descent and sell it to some one who has a soft spot for it.

Seafoam?

I have not tried that yet.

It pushed out an oil smoke for the first 5 mins and stopped smoking after that, so it seams like the rings seated again. I plan on checking the injectors and the compression next time I am down.

Thats car looks sweet, love the 2 tone paint. How is it rust wise? One day I'd love to get an '84 like that and do a ground up like I did on my '91.

Rust wise, when I got it on a rack the other day the main area for rust was the floor pans rooting out. They are not gone completely but if I step hard enough they just might.

there are some bolts in the engine bay that are rusted over but nothing that I have found yet to show complete body damage other than the floor panels.

As far as you finding one, I plan one selling this once I have it road worthy. I have not made up my mind if I want to do the body work or leave it to the person who wants it.
