Home grown old skool (1998) way.

Cut your cat out leaving a couple inches of pipe on either side.

Way#1 (how I did it). Get one of those 6" long sleeve pieces of pipe that are just slightly larger than your pipe and clamp it to your existing exhaust so that you can slide the cat back on (inside of your new sleeve). Get one of those nice stainless steel band clamps and clamp the other end of the cat back in place.
It takes about 3 minutes to remove the cat. You just loosen the band clamp and wiggle the cat off. You can then get another "straight pipe" the same size as the cat and run that for the next 2 years until your next emissions test if you'd like.

Way#2. Same as #1 except use 2 band clamps, one on the front and one the back of the cat and no sleeve.

For your muffler I think a nice cut and a band clamp would work great.

Sure beats messing with a bunch of flanges that usually leak and have more bolts than the band clamps.
Flanges will also require welding.

edit- umm. yeah. Just like Simon said. :D

or just put a dump in front of everything.

Never used those. Do they leak?

And I like the sound of a straight pipe rather than a dump

We've used Stainless Steel Exhaust Clamps for over 12 years without any issues. We carry them in our Exhaust accessories section here:

They are $7.95 each.

NOTE: Some states require that your Catalytic convertor be welded to your downpipe, not clamped. Not sure of your states requirements, but, you might want to check into that.

Nope, I don't know why it took me so long but I just started using them and they are awesome, 5 mins to swap out mufflers/cats etc and they don't leak, :amen:

Not sure why you want to remove them but did you think
about a downpipe with a cutout?
Thats what I run on my SRT-4 at the track.

straight pipe sounds better then a dump. i want to be able to take them off after i get emissions done or vise versa. there isnt a visual here, so i long as it passed thru the sniffer then its ok if the cat is just welded on

You see three different set-ups there. One downpipe is for the factory turbo on my daytona. The other is for a lebaron and the funky looking one is for the hybrid turbo on my daytona.

I made them all. 304 stainless tig welded. So Im not really sure of the
