We are coming and have already booked ourt Hotel Room. I will not be staying at the Hotel Headquarters due to the fact that it is a Casino and all they do is smoke and SMOKE ans smoke some more. (cough-gasp-yuck) If you couldn't tell I hate cigarette smoke plus I have allergies to it. So I will be hanging around outside in the parking lot but will retire to my old world later.

I am still hopefull to be bringing two, maybe three vehicles.

Bryan may bring his 89 Spirit ES
My wife will bring the 06 Charger R/T (it has great a/c)
As for me, I am still hoping to have S-T-R-E-T-C-H there if I can get it done.

Where is the shout out from the SoCal guys going? I think it being in the MidWest with road course is a big reason why I think this combined event is awesome for the midwest and SoCal guys going even though it maybe missing the old SDAC past times of that grassroots style we are used too. ROCK ON!

This will be my first time that I'm able be more then just a spectator. SDAC14 the motor in my van blew up the night before the start of it. SDAC 15 I was really short on money . This year I have already registered and signed up for the road course and drag racing.

I would like to go, but it depends on wether or not I can get my Spirit R/T finished up. I would consider taking my Shelby Lancer or Omni GLH, but they need a lot of work to make look nice, although they are mechanically good to go. Who knows, maybe I'll take two cars if I can talk my brother into it.

GLHSKEN
06-03-2006, 03:22 PM
Looks of the car is not important (actually, no one cares). Once you have experienced the "brotherhood" exhibited at an event... You are sold.

iTurbo
06-03-2006, 04:03 PM
Well that is comforting to know. 90% of the the last 100,000 miles on my Shelby Lancer have been delivering pizza. You can probably imagine how bad the interior looks. I do have a nice SL interior from a low mileage car in my garage but I don't want to install it until I buy new carpet. I've fixed most of the hail damage to but the roof is still REALLY bad.

My Omni looks OK in/out, but the paint is awful and it has dings galore. At least they are rust free.

beavis1313
06-03-2006, 04:12 PM
It's not about what they look like . My van has rust and peeling paint and nobody thinks anything of it.
bottom line is if runs bring it

If I go it will most likely be without a race car.
I do not want to pay the additional money ($125.00) to the SRT folks for the "Privilege" to race with them. (That is how I feel about it.)

I am afraid there will be too many cars drag racing.
If anyone actually knows a car count for the drag racing I would be very interested in that information. It may change my, and others, way of thinking.

-Bryan This evening I was given the figures for the event attendance as it sits right now. I don't want to post them publicly though. Lets just say that right now, the figure for the drag racing is less than 10 more than we usually get at our events. This seems a bit low to me. I am sure they had hoped (counted on) more.

Well, I was thining of that BUT, the gf is pregnant, 5000 mile drive round trip and we want to stop in at Vegas, so add another 1500 miles or so. Good news for folks that may decide at the last minute to go to SDAC-16 & the SRT Nationals. The folks at SRT have decided that they will take registration on site for the autocross and drag racing events. Previously their policy was for only advance registration via their website, but they realize that policy, if held to, could possibly backfire with a large number of folks being turned away at the gate.

The road course driving school is essentially full with only cancellations providing new spots, and those spots being filled from a waiting list. They will not be accepting payments to attend the SRT awards night/banquet on site either. If you want to attend the SRT banquet, you must still register in advance on the SRT Nats website, www.srtnationals.org

As it stands now, anyone that shows up at the gate will be able to purchase a spectator/guest pass, or registration for either the drag racing or autocross events. Remember too that the drag racing is being held for 2 days and nearly 20 hours, with racing under the lights on Friday evening. As a bonus they have doubled the number of goody bags to be handed out, from the first 200 paid registrations to the first 400.

As for SDAC-16 registrations, mail in pre-registrations must be mailed by July 7th. There was an SDAC-16 pre-registration form in the last issue of Up Front, and there is also one available for download on the SDAC website www.sdac.org. Also on the website, pre-registration can be done online with payment via PayPal through July 15th. And as at all past SDAC events, we will accept onsite registration also.

I have updated the SDAC website with the SDAC-16 schedule and a map of the location of the car show, Gage Park. www.sdac.org

Let me see if I understand...you live 45 minutes away and you are going to be there around noon on Sunday?!? Do you think there will be another event this close to you ever again? If you aren't there for every minute you can be you will be sorry and possibly upset with yourself later for having missed out. For those that have never been to an SDAC annual event before, it is AN EXPERIENCE. The best times are the hanging out in the parking lot meeting, greeting, looking, learning, and living for all things turbo Mopar. I always experience such a downer after I leave that I'm usually bummed for about a week after I get back because I know it will be another year before I get to see friends and cars again. I know those that haven't been won't understand what I'm saying. All I can say is, if you have the opportunity to go and don't, you are missing out big time. If you go, you will discover and understand what I'm talking about.

Ya, Forbes Field isn't the biggest airport in the world, it's actually an air national guard base with a commercial terminal.
KCI would be a better bet, maybe you could get a puddle jumper to Forbes from there. But it's not too bad of a drive from KCI to Topeka. I-435 south from the airport to I-70 west will get you there
Be advised, I-70 is a toll road once you get past the west end of Kansas City, Kansas, it should cost somewhere around $1.50 in toll

I'd say most of the fast ones are about the same as your Z. There are a few that are running low 11s consistently, I think, and a couple that have managed high 10s. Who knows what will show up at Nationals. Last year the fastest car was the Mopar lightweight, which ran a whole bunch of 11.8s in a row to win the bracket race.

I'm going out on a limb here, and say (in a public forum) that I was surprised that they have the Quick 8 broken down into classes. Are they going to allow someone like Stefane to embarrass the Vipers (or other hot non-4 cylinder cars) in the Quick 8 or not? Doesn't look like it. Disappointing in a way, to me.

And if they do get a huge turnout for the drags, this only leads to more complexity in the running of the events. All of a sudden, 2.5 days of drag racing becomes bogged down with too many classes.

I guess we will see ....

I think they don't understand the intent of the race, I.e. the quickest cars competing heads up. Early on I suggested a Quick 16 to allow a wider field of cars to compete, and doing that versus a Quick 8 only adds one round to eliminations.

Dale has little understanding of drag racing events vs classes and from our conversations, his drag racing committee isn't much better. They started out with class breakdowns like that for ALL the racing. Just because they thought that was the way it is done. The concept of 'run what you brung' seems to be lost on them.

At least this way there will be more winners and lots of happy folks heading home with awards.

On SRTForums.com there is a thread with the extended forecast. Mid to upper 90's all week we are there and it shows Saturday the 22nd at 99 for a high. Sun the 23rd isn't listed as yet.

It will be hot on the road course and at the drags, but the autocross will be really hot (it's on fresh blacktop).

Barry
Local forecast is for mid 90's on sunday

Typical convention weather... if we had a convention in december in North Dakota it would somehow be 100F!

Denny,

I'd do it again if I was able to complete the car and somehow get out of my daughter's wedding! I'm sure gonna miss you guys. Repeating what Ken said, I absolutely enjoy the camaraderie at the events. I find this to be second to none among the SDAC crowd.

Steve, I know you'll do this. I saw it for myself last year, you drove from PA to KY, flogged your car at the strip, wrenched on it at the hotel, drove it home.
And then, what better time could there be to break your car than at a SDAC meet, with all the people and parts......

Bryan what happend, not coming?

To make a long story short I have been busting my balls the last couple weeks to get my basement finished in the house so I can max my equity to buy out my partner in the business. The appraiser is coming on Friday and I have to make sure all is in order. We are set to close next week. I can not afford to miss this deadline. I actually thought I was a month away from this all taking place, but things got moved forward. It is a good thing in the end, just not for this weekend.

Oh, not to mention that my roommate will not be attending either. He got into a car accident about a week ago and his back is not in the condition for the 8 hour drive.

I regret not going already. This is really close and would be an easy drive.

IF, that is a big IF, I can get things moved up one day I might be able to swing one night in Kansas, but as it stands right now I have to say I will not make it.

They are pretty much ignoring us. The hotel could definitely be better. Reeves was "making a drive-by" of the SRT hotel with Warren Hall and Steve Caulder at 2am. Dont have much strength to gives lots of new, other then TM's took the entire top 3 places of the slick's 4 cyl class. Stephane ran two runs beautifully pulling a 180mph run on his 8.13 run. Cox never left the line twice and then ran a 15.4 at 36mph!!! Kudoos for trying, but give the money to Stephane.

Yep, the Cox showing was pretty poor (no comments about "Cox showing"...), and the turbo Mopars did great and opened a few eyes, I'm sure. Rob Pachner took first in 4-cyl slicks. St. Louis SRT members took the first two places in 4-cyl street tire, including yours truly in 2nd. ;) I was surprised; I thought there would be more fast cars here. I guess the fast ones were running slicks.

It rained in the morning, but the track dried out and we got in the full races. It was in the 70s all day, which was a huge change from yesterday's 108-109 temps! I thought organization of the drags was pretty good. They have pay-at-the-pump race gas here. :)

Just read a thread (drag racing) in SRT forums where a guy said our cars were rust buckets with bad electronics, head gasket issues and blow up trannys all the time. Guess he didn't see the Crawford/Cox car "run"- "not run"- "break trannys".
BTW, Reeves made a most excellent reply!

21 hrs home straight thru, stops for the three "F's" - food, fuel and fireworks!
See y'all next time.

Yes he did. BTW... The same individual made a comment in there that "we" installed the alky inj on the car. Didn't see him ANYWHERE around while WE were installing it.

James has done a fantastic job on his car as have Rob and Warren. Three "CLEAN" rustbuckets cleaned their clocks when it came time to put the pedal down.
