I have a 568 with 3.85 and want to put my 3.77 fd ratio from my 543 on it. What needs to be done to do this?

The trans has to be taken apart, and the sushkabob of gears has to taken off your old 3.85 pinion, and put on your new 3.77 one. I usually stack everything in order to lessen the confusion. (a FSM would be good too) This is a good time to check things for wear. (like the nylon fork / shaft inserts). and then take the 3.85 diff setup out and put your 3.77 setup in. I would check bearings / preload at the same time all this is going on to make sure everything is good.

the trans will be taken apart to inspect everything and to put all new bearings in. I have a fsm and have had my 543 apart before but just didn't know exactly what needed to be done to it. Yea, i have a machine shop that will be making me a set of shify fork pads as soon as i figure out what i want them made from. I'd like to use the 3.85 diff so i was thinking of cjangine the ring gear and seeing if that will fit. I'm also tempted to just leave it 3.85 cause i'd immagine that the shafts are prolly better anyway.

if there's nothing wrong with the 3.85, there's not really any reason to change it. You won't see much of a difference in rpms. Whatever mph you were at 3850rpm before, you'll only be at 3770. You'd only be about 150rpm different at 6000. That would put you shifting 1-2 at maybe 1mph higher than you did before.

The ring gear/diff are different between the A568 and the A543. This page should help you. http://www.members.aol.com/mopartek/home.html

it will be left alone b/c upon disassembly i found a chip in the ring gear of the 543 so it stays 3.85
