View Full Version : how to get the most from a tI intake

I have a couple of spare tI intakes and was wondering if there is anything that I can do to make it better or as good as a 2pc:eyebrows: . I'm thinking that somewhere I saw on with the top and elbow cut off and the TB flange welded to the top of the manifold somehow. this is for a van so hood clearance would be know problem, and it would mean the upper IC hose could be a straight shot. I currently have a stock tII IC but will soon be upgrading to something better. Is this a pipe dream or is it do-able. I don't mind spending the $ for a 2pc but cheaper is always better if it can net the same results. I have the time and the tools so shoot me any other mods to the intake that are known to work. I'm willing to try anything. Just don't want the intake to be my induction bottleneck. Thanks in advance for your ideas or smart... comments. Really I take criticism well and enjoy a good wisecrack!

i cut mine in half hollowed out the inside then drilled the injector holes out for 33pph's since i'm running a 2.5 using t1 electrics the 27's did'nt supply enough fuel for the 2.5.I get simular flow to a t2 the cam really made a differance the head and cam is out of a 1987 lebaron (slider type)782 i opened the ports and gasket matched it and cleaned the aluminum around the valves.I have found the hard part of a log is how the air gets into it number 4 cly gets most air it is the leanest so 1 and 2 i hollowed out a little more than 3-4 one other thing is open the elbow up where the turbo is mine is about 1/8 inch thick and the walls in the log is about 1/4 thick

A to B the big differences are the neck, smaller on 1 pc, and the runners, squared on 1 pc vs. roundish on 2 pc. The neck is the biggie.

i was thinkin about cutting the neck elbow and welding in a 2.5 or 3'' pipe elbow in its place. I dont want it straight for the reason that I believe it would deprive cylinder #4 and the elbow helps with distributing the air more evenly. and i believe it was also engineered that way for a reason. just my .02

The elbow does help disrupt the swirling flow...

This is my experiment.
I'll weld the stock throttle body plate on, bored for a 52mm.

It doesn't look like it, but the T body will be located in the stock location.

^^^ that's an interesting idea too.

You could try to make one like I did.

It's kind of a step-by-step picture sequence if you start from the bottom pic. So far no dyno #'s yet:mad: Probably within the next couple of weeks. I have to assume it easily outflows either 1 or 2 peice. But no #'s to back up my running of the mouth.

Dropped off the intake at the welders this morning.
Should be done in a few days, I'll post pics when I get it back.
