Hi everyone,

First, let me preface this by saying that I am NOT a vendor (obviously) and stand to make nothing off this.

I never heard of the book "Fast Days" until Neil Emiro brought it to my attention. Check it out!

http://www.fast-days.com/

"Fast Days by Joel Jackson presents the unvarnished true history of one of the most unheralded groups in automotive performance engineering. We were the people known as Chrysler-Shelby, Dodge-Shelby, Shelby American, Shelby Automobiles, Group SV, and many other names. We were the designers, fabricators, mechanics, engine builders, crew chiefs, and test drivers that actually designed, built, anddeveloped the automobiles. We raced our nameless grand prix's without praise or glory across dry lake beds, on skid pads, drag strips, and high speed race courses in every part of the country. We battled with steering, brakes, engines, transmissions, tires, wheels, shocks, springs, and chassis. Fighting rain, heat, cold, wind, dust, wrecks, and sometimes each other. We raced across the miles and the years, striving to achieve more than we did the last time. Some did it for a paycheck, while others, conscious of their part in this epic we were racing through, savored the moments, the times to be remembered in the years ahead, these times that I call the FAST DAYS."

The book normally costs $20.94 ($16.99 + $3.95 shipping), with an autograph to YOUR NAME by the author. There is a 40% discount for a purchase of 10 or more books, which brings the price down to $14.15 ($10.20 + $3.95 shipping). I have arranged a deal with the publisher to make the 40% discount available to everyone in the Shelby Dodge community through the end of February. Simply call 903-683-1599 and tell them you are in the limited group buy that Chris arranged. You will be able to customize the autograph as a part of your order, so you can make it out to yourself, a fellow enthusiast, etc.

My copy is in the mail and I'm very excited to receive it and learn more about my car's history. Remember, this offer is over at the end of February!

I take it this is the same book mentioned on the SDML? Either way, looks like I'll be adding another to the library!

Why not get a group buy together? Order 10 books and get a 40% discount, that's pretty substantial. Who's in?

Hi Mike #1,

Yep, same book. :)

Hi Mike #2,

This is exactly that deal! I left my credit card with the vendor and agreed to buy the balance of 10 books at the end of February if fewer than 10 books sold. This way, each of you can call up and get the 40% discounted price without the hassle of waiting for a group buy to complete. It also means I don't need to collect payment from everyone, ship the books to me then ship them all out individually, etc.

Ordered on their online store for the $16.95 price autographed. I can not wait to read this

I would suggest calling back and asking if they will honor this 40% off group buy price. See details in the original post please. The 40% off price is still autographed.

I finished the book last night. At first I was not crazy about the writing style, it wasn't your normal professionally-written book. It's written in a storytelling style, as if someone just wrote down everything that was said while the story was being told. Once you get used to the style, it really is just like you are listening to Joel tell his story directly to you.

I won't lie, Joel has a bit of an ego, but I would think that most of the talented people involved with Shelby probably had an ego (and probably rightfully so). I really enjoyed all the stories about Shelby's involvement in IMSA racing. I loved hearing about all the practical jokes and kidding around between the guys. By halfway through the book, I really felt I was getting to know the main characters. They had something special going during their glory days.

It was a great read, and makes me a lot more appreciative of my GLHS's heritage. Just as boneyardracing said, I really wished there was even more when I got to the end of the book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to hear more about what happened inside the Shelby Automobiles operation.

I got mine a few weeks ago, haven't quite finished it yet, the last bit about the CanAm isn't as interesting to me as the TM parts, but still a very interesting book and very educational... I'd really like to talk to this guy! I had no idea they built an AWD Lancer! I was thinking since I wasn't 1st with the AWD Omni, I'd be 1st with the Lancer...:(

Oh well, good read just the same!

Chris,

I own one of the Imsa CSX-T's in the book. It's pretty cool reading about it! I've been doing research for years and I'm getting excited about restoring it.

Here's some stuff for you guys to check out....

I just finishe the book last night, and I have to say it was a great read. It's so great to read about the creation of these cars, and the people that made them so great. I was honestly not surprised by Shelby's lack of personal involvment, but it was interesting to read about the people that were.
