Well I used to have a short shift on the 555 but then I put in a new style tranny so it was back to farmer throw for me. Lesson learned....farmer throw sucks. So it was back to the board to make another short shifter. This time along with shortening the top I also lengthend the bottom. The result was a beautifully short throw with just as much effort as the 555 (due to the better shifting of the newer trannies). The throw is much shorter than the 555 was as well. I took about 4" off the top, added an adapter piece I made to fit the new shift knob which probably added about another 2" to things. The aftermarket knob is prbably about .5-1" shorter than the factory so in total about 3-3.5" was taken off the top. Then I added 1" of throw to the bottom and raised the whole carraige assembly to match. There was a little more interference with the assembly and the boot than I thought there would be but the boot still fit on with a little mod. In hind sight I maybe should have made a 1" spacer instead but this one works and I love the shifting. Here's some pics.
