I want to run a dump on my Omni and was looking for some input on what others have done, I'm leaning on the second 90^ bend by the rear wheel, I don't have the engine and trans in so I don't know what kind of clearance there is at the down pipe. Pictures would be great, thanks

3" from s.v. to the dump, then 2.5" to the muffler. If I did it again, I would dump at the downpipe, as some tech officials don't like to let me run with it open on street legal drags.
Also, drill a small hole on the bottom by the cap as it will collect water when closed.

nice job, that's where I was going to tie in at. Since you ran it at the track, did you pick up any time with the dump open?

I run an electronic dump just past the K-fram on the Shadow. As far as performance, I will get spark blowout running high boost (above 23psi) when it is closed through a 3" exhaust. So that tells me there is extra backpressure when it is closed. It is 4" up to the dump.

Mine's always sealed up good. It's designed with a lip on each side so the butterfly has something to seal up against.

3" exhaust cutouts on there for $165? That's a deal!

Badlanz is cheaper but no lip. I get a bit of carbon around the bottom but I wouldn't say it leaks. Not enough that it sounds like an exhaust leak that's for sure.

I made my own and it works off of boost. Hasn't failed me yet. Trying to see what I need to do to get a patent on it and make some up for people and bring in some big bucks :thumb:

I agree, running the cutout right after the downpipe is the only sensible way. No reason to run the exhaust though half your exhaust system and dump it at your rear axle. At that point you would be better off spending the money on a 3" mandrel bent exhaust and calling it a day.

Heh, its definitely not a new idea. I was planning one for my van before i put the project on hold for GRM $2009. I still want to make one.

I agree that unless you just want the noise (which to me is a valid consideration), it only makes financial sense to put it as close to the downpipe as possible unless you want to make half of your exhaust system out of larger, more expensive pipe.

I love the sound of an open downpipe, just not when you have to drive with one every day lol.
