View Full Version : So how many miles on a fresh engine are enough to crank up the boost again :)?

I've got 300 miles of 8psi sofar and I don't know how much longer I can hold out. I was barely able to keep up with a full size chevy truck today in a bit of stop light racing. I need my 18psi :).

I always go 500 miles then let her loose. But right after the first start up on a fresh rebuild I change the oil & filter after 50 miles, then again at 500 miles and once more at 1,000 miles. But the wick gets turned up after the 2nd oil change.

I did an oil change after the first run to full temp and am planning to do a second sometime this week. 500 miles seems a lot more reachable then the 1k I was planning to wait for.

She's either seated or not. Your rings are moly coated. They like a hard set.

Reeves won the quick 8 at SDAC 14 with 125 miles on a fresh engine. 11.2's @ 125+mph.

I hit my own with 20 psi within 5 miles. You are more than good to go.

Hhhmmm.... (My GLHS)

I put about 20 miles on mine and let'er rip to 15psi a couple of times after a few partial throttle/decel cycles to get the rings seated routine. After a total of 80 miles on the street going up to 27psi a few times :D (well maybe a lot of times!). It's was off to the track and it now has a total of 121 miles 90% of that is 1/4 mile at a time. (121-80=41 miles) Track has 1/4 mile shut down so 1 mile per run (total of 22 runs) plus a little grocery gettin':eyebrows:. Oil (dino) changed at 5 minutes, then another dino oil change at 15-25 miles then I go Mobil 1 and change that in 500 miles then regular 3k mile routine and always a fresh filter.

If your rings don't seat in the first few miles they never will. (IMO) I always break mine in the way they're going to be used. Lot's of different opinions, this is just mine. Has worked for many different engines over the last 35+ years (Gawd I feel old...) race or daily driver.
