Just bought an '85 Laser XT ( I think? XE had digital dash right?) 5 speed, t-tops, p/w, p/l. Wayyy too cheap to pass up, especially with no rust and brand new tires. I don't need another car right now but after taking a look at it in the daylight plans started popping up in my head. Should be a good time. :thumb:Needs a tranny but apparently the 525 is weak so I should probably do a swap to something that's cable shifted. Good/bad idea?

Plus a sweet badge screwed into the front bumper... :eyebrows:

I haven't owned a 2.2 before just 2.5's, any "secret" info would be awesome.

In 85 the XE had the regular Laser front end if I remember right. That should be an XT. The A525 is cable shifted in a Laser.

You could swap 520 in it and be fine. Nice looking car. I like the first gen's.

I wish i could find some 1st gen g-bodies to buy. Ive only had a 2g tbi and i took it apart.. that motors still kicking, been in 2 different cars so far..

Looks like a fun project. I dig the rare wagon wheels too. 520s are pretty common and the install is easy since your car is starting 5spd, the hardest part (laying on your back putting pedals in) is already done! :p

Thanks for the comments guys but I got a phone call this morning informing me that the shop owner did not have permission to sell the car. :banghead: So much for ever wanting to get work done at his place. So apparently they are towing it back home, I'm keeping the trans dowel pins that I took out because they are already in my brothers Shelby.

That sucks now that I know it was already cable shifted, would have been a super easy swap.

Too bad, I had grown quite fond of that little car...

What an odd circumstance. Sorry to hear you didnt pilfer more items off of it.

Perhaps you'll find another one :)

I think I'm goin' for an Omni next, or a Charger. Something where weight isn't as big of an issue.
