It will quite it up just a little bit. I still have a cat on though...to a glasspack, then out the side...its not really loud when i am normally driving, but when i stomp on it...its gets very loud....then again..i have a heavily modded motor.

On the Chump CSX I have a 2.5" exhaust going out the side with a glass pack, Sounds fine and quieted it down to under 92 db.

long case glasspacks are really awesome in my opinion because when you are barely on it its very quiet, and when you are WOT its very loud. Compared to like Flowmasters ive had that started sorta loud and got sorta louder when you floored it, was not such a nice range of noise levels.

this is not a good video but its an 87 2.2 t2 converted new yorker with 2.5" exhaust and a 22" glasspack.

Any other videos Vigo? Also how much did it muffle the turbo sound?

Nope, no other videos of that car and it's taken apart again right now.

As for the turbo sound its hard to say because i went from open downpipe to the glasspack and full exhaust past the rear bumper so thats a lot of pipe. You can still hear it some..

Now i dont know if im crazy but i have noticed more difference in the turbo spooling sound from pipe diameter than anything else.. i.e. i hear it more on bigger exhausts. Havent done enough different stuff with mufflers to notice much about differences there, im pretty much a glasspack kinda guy :p

I have just the downpipe with a glasspack welded on and it isn't too bad. I have driven for 3 hours straight like that.

Depends on the size.. ive done the same thing with 2.5 dp and glasspack and 3" dp and glasspack and the difference in noise is huge.

Stock downpipe for all log manifold cars was 2.25", and then back near the fuel tank it went down even smaller. You should have a 2.25" downpipe.

Ok cool. So a 2 1/2 glass pack will fit over that then.

Just save your money get a 3"swing valve a get a 3" back form fwd or TU then you done it right the first time and got yourself some more ponies without waisting time and money.

Yeah. but how much is a 3in swing valve? can I put it on with the turbo on the car? as far as the down pipe can I just have my exhaust guy make me one?

yes and yes as for price keep your eye out on the used part for sale or get in line for the new ones that Turbos unleased is selling

Yeah $300 for a swing valve is alittle pricey for this car ( I dident even pay that much for the car) haha. so maybe used.

+1 on exhaust size making a difference. I went from stock size and cherry bomb that was not much worse than stock to a full 3" with glass pack and it was extremely loud. So then i just took the glass pack off all together, with that big of an exhaust the difference was barely noticable between the 3" with and without glass pack.

Well sorta.. most 2.5" glasspacks are 2.5" inner diameter so they will slip over 2.5" outer diameter pipe. But i do believe 2.5" o.d. pipe will slide over 2.25" and fit pretty snug, so if you have a short piece of 2.5" you could use it as an adapter and weld it up or clamp the hell out of it, or rent a pipe expander for your 2.25" pipe, or some of the parts stores sell a 2.25 to 2.5" adapter in their exhaust pieces section. Several cheap options DIY options.

I have a part number for a nice long 2.5" glasspack that advanced auto sell for $21, but i have to remember to look in my toolbox for it. :p

Ive always thought the glasspack was a pretty good quality on these motors.. If you put the exhaust all the way out the back with one it kinda just sounds like loud whooshing air from in the car when you're WOT.

a while back i had my ported swingvalve, 3" DP, 30" long 3" dia cherry bomb glasspack with a 90 degree out the side of the car. sounded SSSIIIIICCCCKKK but it was stupid loud! couldnt downshift because it sounded like shotguns. now i have full turbo back 3" i made myself with an ultra quiet series resinator in the middle and an ebay can tucked up underneath so you cant see its a cheap can. sounds good, you can keep it quiet, quick spool, and my buddies say it sounds pretty mean when i get on it. the 3" pipe def has a more mellow tone i think. might be louder but that its more mellow it plays tricks on you and for some reason seems quieter. idk if thats just me or not

2.5" mandrel bent from dp out the back, with one 20 something inch glasspack in the middle. Kinda loud for me, i will put another one in the stock muffler location.

Hey my car isent the only car with the valve tick

Vigo
12-11-2009, 12:55 AM
Im not sure that's valve tick.. i thought there was a valve tick on the New Yorker i am helping my friend Derrick with, and right after we replaced a few lifters that were bleeding down and it still knocked, took off the pan and it had eaten a brand new rod bearing and messed up the crank. Still not sure how that happened.

Anyway this motor is coming out to be gone through and put in the new yorker, and im putting a 2.2 and 520 5speed in this car :)
