I have finally gotten lucky!! One of my older projects left behind something for me. Not only did I find a box full of misc exhaust parts (I can use on my Saturn. I still need your exhaust stuff BIG PSI) but, I found an Oil Pressure Gauge:thumb: The only bad thing about it is, it's just the gauge, there is nothing else.

I'm pretty sure it's a mechanical gauge. It looks like a boost gauge on the back. There are two studs for mounting it and then, on the bottom on the backside is the brass fitting.

How do these things get hooked up? I've searched around and found a nylon tube kit for a boost gauge. Would this work on the Oil gauge as well?

And, where do you tap into the oil system to get the readings from?

Thanks!
Paul

The nylon tubing will work, but it's prone to leaks. Autometer has a copper tubing kit that's carried at most parts stores or find it in Summit or Jegs.

For the pressure feed, there should be a port on the oil block on the front of the block where the turbo feed line goes.

I think I found something. Is this what you were talking about?

Jegs Oil Pressure Gauge Line Kit (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?lang=-1&catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=14353&searchItemId=19275)

The "port" on the block by the sender - Is this ON the sender unit or just near it?

Thanks,
Paul

I think I found it:

Is that is right on the sending unit - The screw/bolt looking thing?

Are these connections good for a mechanical pressure gauge? I forgot to mention that's the type I have. I thought there was a port or something like that that I screw a fitting into, similar to the temp gauge port that I can use on top of the inlet for the radiator.

Thanks,
Paul

Since you have a mechanical gauge, so you could remove the electrical sender in there now, and hook up your gauge there.

In the pic, is that the black fitting or the whole thing that the black fitting is sitting in as well. I was wondering because the WHOLE thing appears to not have any sides to it - something for a wrench or socket to hold on it. It's all smooth...

Thanks,
Paul

I dont think thats the oil pressure gauge sendor that you have circled in the pic above.. That is the low oil pressure switch for the oil light on the dash. your car doesnt have a factory oil pressure gauge right? It probebly just has an idiot light.. I wouldn't remove that, because its a nice feature to have even with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. just remove that hex plug right beside that sender and put the oil pressure gauge fitting their. (thats where i have it on my Rampage)

Almost like adding a temp gauge on the water box - just remove the one fitting from it and screw in the temp gauge..

Thanks!
Paul

(Actually, swap the temp sensor into the spare water box hole THEN install the temp gauge where the temp sensor use to be..for the water temp gauge that is :o )

Yes, just buy a universal oil pressure line kit from an auto parts store. It will come with all the brass fittings needed to hook it up to the gauge, and engine with the nylon line.. and should only cost you like 5 bucks.

Actually about $10 after tax and stuff...but that's alright..

Thanks again!

Thats for the brass line one though, and thats probebly why it costs more.. I am just running the nylon line that was supplied with my Auto Meter gauge with no ploblems at all.

This one I have I found in a box of old (20+ years) parts I had from a Cutlass I use to own. I wish I had kept the temp gauge as well. But, all I had, from the gauge pack, was the amp meter and the oil gauge, but again, no fittings for either.

Do you have a link for a nylon kit? I thought using the copper would be better - meaning no leaks.

Here is a place in Canada that i found that sells the kit. Its 4.99CAD and on the second page on this link.

Hopefully this link works.. http://members.shaw.ca/DL0002/AUTO-CAN.pdf

In the States you should be able to get the nylon line kit with all the fittings you'll need at about any discount auto parts store like Advance, Autozone, etc. The metal line kit might be harder to track down. As I recall one of the stores (either advance or autozone) kept it in stock and the other didn't, but it's been awhile since I bought one so things might have changed.

I think advanced has the hard line kit. Believe I saw it in there when I was looking at the gauge section.

Cool. I remember the last time I went to buy one I ended up going to both Autozone and Advance. One of them had it, the other didn't, but that's been a few years ago. I know Autozone expanded their selection of gauges awhile back, so maybe they both carry them now.

I don't know abot you guys, but 6' of line simply isn't long enough in my car. I had to go to a VDO kit which is 10' I beleive. I don't like the nylon though as #1 it does leak, and #2 it technically isn't NHRA leagal for instal inside the car...

I was internet window shopping the other day and found a few kits at the Advanced site. One of which caught my eye but it's a nylon kit - The fittings are already attached! I liked that since I've had trouble with these in the past. But, I think I'll stick with the copper line kit.
