Not really much of a project, but wanted to share some pics of the 17's on the 87 TII car...

Needs more tire :) Or lower it. I actually don't like those wheels much either, but the car looks very nice. What color is that?

What color is that?

I'm pretty sure it's called Charcoal...a very knowledgeable guy (that also owns a same colored Z) said it was only available in 87.

It probably would look better lowered, but I also kinda like the way it sits...and I surely prefer the stock ride quality compared to how most lowered cars feel. Turning 40 does that to some people LOL :(

I think it needs bigger tires AND to be lowered to maximize the style factor. I like the general style of the wheels on that car.. but the blue center caps stick out oddly.. id repaint em a dark gray to match the car.

225/50r17s are pretty tall and would ride better than whats on it.. and as for lowering im of the belief that cut stock springs dont ride much different from uncut as long as you're not hitting the bumpstops..

But im a big believer in to each his own. It looks better than stock wheels as it sits anyway :)

Honestly the only reason I have these wheels/tires is because they were on the blue T-top car I just put back together. Probably would not have bought these if I was actually buying some new rims. If it gets to the point where I need to buy new tires, I'll get a little taller to help with the ride quality.

Everyone has their own tastes and that's cool. Just figured I'd share some pics since it was the first time out with them on...actually if anyone has pics of a Shelby Z with wheels other than stock and wants to share, feel free to post them. :thumb:

Looks great! :thumb: That car looks to be in beautiful shape! You'd be surprised that the Eibach lowering springs ride just as good, if not better then the stock Shelby springs.

I'm pretty sure it's called Charcoal...

Ron will know for sure, but I think ... Gunmetal?

17's are a nice size for Daytonas :) +1 to needing it lowered a tad... can get the softer eibachs to power and ride ok.

Hey guys I got a question I've been wondering for a while but forget to ask...did the 87 or 88 Shelby Z have any hood decals, or did the "INTERCOOLED TURBO" decal start it off in 89?

I actually like the stock crab wheels on the '87 Z's. Dunno why, they just seem to fit the car nicely. I also like the early Lebaron GTC 16" meshies, they are my favorite stock wheel. I have a set on my Shelby Z right now :) Here's a pic of it w/ some old 15" chrome something-or-others on it.

Here is mine. It's a 1st gen but you get the idea. 16" pt cruiser wheels with 205/50 tires.

Wow I didnt think I would like it as much as I do.
It gives it the look of an iroc but I like the profile better on the Z's
I think the 3rd gen Irocs always look a little inflated though I like the body style

Yeh, i really hate what they did with the 92-93 daytona front, but im guessing a lot of shelby owners would trade their front clip for a good running tIII setup so it cuts both ways i guess.

I like them on that older car. I tend to think ALL the stock 16s dont look very good on anything (need different offset mostly), but that combo is better than passable. :)

I don't like the Ninjas much. I have to +3 on not liking the 3rd Gen nose either. The '87 is pretty much my favorite year of Daytona, although I am thinking of mixing and matching some ground effects and tail panels :)

Bitchin' Z! 17" wheels are great for handling. I have 15" Center Line "Storms" on my '88 Z for less rotating mass=quicker acceleration and braking. Each wheel size has advantages, just depends on what you like.

1" drop and go with a 225/45/17 tire! (unless thats what on there now...go 50 series...)

looks awesome. super clean Z u got there, always loved the grey ones

the only thing wierd is the blue center on the caps. and how u got red stripe goin on with the car. can u get red center cap to match? or just swap the stripe to a blue one! but then your trim on the back will be red still...lol...

Really didn't do anything to this car except clean it up a bit and personalize the interior with LeBaron panels and an aftermarket gauge/steering wheel. Also wanted to point out that the crabs still look as good as when they first left the factory. And check out how clean the floor is...I took that pic the day I bought it...notice the PAPER tag that's still attached to the parking brake cable!

This car was sold to a close friend two years ago, and he loves it. Actually drives the hell out of it during nice summer days. It's in good hands, as he keeps it shining like new, plus it has it's own climate controlled garage space.

Love that car.

Thanks Adam. Like I mentioned earlier, my buddy owns it now and keeps it in great shape. But he does also use it often during the summer months in the Chicagoland suburbs. He says he's never owned a car that strikes up so many conversations with strangers, or get the amount of compliments that this Z does. I'm super glad he has the ability to care for and share it.

Here's my Shelby Z. 16x7" Enkie RPF1 35mm 225/50/16, Eibach springs that are trimmed and Koni's all the way around. It's lowered about 2.25" from stock IIRC. I wouldn't go much more than that unless the suspension pick-up points were altered to correct the geometry. It does handle very well, and it rides surprisingly well. My dad's only complaint is getting in and out of it because it is so low. Other than that he said it doesn't hurt his back at all, which is a compliment from him!

It's a Greddy turbo timer. One of the previous owners (I was number 3) installed it. It was originally stuffed in the upper cubby hole, but I added a traveller and moved it down low. It was kinda neat, and seemed to work fine.

Thanks! Nope, mine is a hard-top. It also has the tan interior. I can't find where I've seen it before, but with the combination of options my car has, it possibly could be 1 of 90-ish cars or less for '88. I'm technically the 3rd owner of mine as well, but the 2nd owner (a friend of mine) only drove it once while he owned it.
