Hey everyone. I'm new on here. I just bought a 2000 Chrysler 300M. It's bone stock and wondering if anybody knew the best way for me to get a noticible raise in horsepower without breaking the bank, or blowing the engine...lol Pleeeease help...need to hit the speed limit faster :D

welcome to the forum you have a nice acar there. i am honeslty not sure of any mods that you can do to that car off the top of my head. Ask the oracle (google) though and i am sure that something will come up

I heard that Prowler PCMs were the hot ticket.
Though I never tried that and can't verify that it works.

What engine?

If its not a 300m special you can get a nice acceleration gain by putting '2.7 gears' on it and using shorter tires. The downside is an incorrect speedo. It can be corrected with some electronic box for $100 or something like that.

The 2.7 gears go on the back of the transmission and are fairly easy to do in the car (for a transmission mod) and the parts themselves are ~$100 used. What it does is lower your effective diff ratio from 3.6:1 to 3.9:1.

I had them in my old intrepid.

Anyway check out dodgeintrepid.net for info on 2.7 gears. Not that i recommend the place, really.. but there's 2.7 gear info there.

You have that backwards, lowering your gear ratio is a lower number, ;)

I hear a 150 wet shot of NOS will wake it up nicely. You may wake up in the morning with a hangover, a pile of puke outside the door and tires worn down to the cordes!

My dad has an 04 M and he is a part of some 300M owners forum online but i cant remember the name. I know that there were Jet chips available for them but I hear they suck, and you can supposedly get ~5 horsepower by putting the dual exhaust on it from the M special. I think this is the club my dad is in.

On my 300M I cut off the rear muffler and the other muffler behind the rear axle and put one magnaflow with smooth bends like the rest of the exhaust. I also made a air filter kit with some black abs pipe I got at home depot and through a K&N on the end.

go to http://300mclub.org/index.php

and go on their forums. A lot of guys on there that did some pretty good performance stuff. Doing the exhaust and the intake I was driving 55 mph in rural MN and I average 31.9 mpg!

I was going to put real dual exhaust on the car since the car has dual cats that run from the engine to a resonator and then single exhaust after that. Cut the resonator off and put a X pipe and run a extra exhaust pipe back. Look on the 300M forum and you will see what I mean.

No you have it backwards, higher gear is a lower number, lower gear is a higher number.

I made my 1st gen car as fast a second gen car, and putting the same mods on a 2nd gen car would make it faster than that...

My 97 3.5 had:
2.7 gears
Shorter tires (245/45r16)
Dual 52mm tb's (first and only of this mod as far as i know)
Cowl induction intake with seperate pipes and filters. 1st gen intake pipe was a POS....
True dual exhaust: stock downpipes/precats to true duals, 2.25" iirc, and flowmaster 40 series (NOT delta, VERY loud)
3300 rpm high-stall converter
Autostick TCM conversion
PCM with no speed limiter (rare)
overhead console conversion

My car would have been MUCH faster IF i had done something about the stock downpipes and precats. I dont know much about the 2g downpipes but i know their exhaust manifolds look worse than 1g pieces, and the downpipes might be worse too.

But here's the thing that will make a 3.5L intrepid MUCH faster: Raise the rev limiter. I dunno if anyone has found a way to do this yet but all my experience with my car led me to believe that the #1 thing holding it back was the rev limiter. You need a prowler TCM to go with this, most likely, because the prowler TCM is the only autostick TCM that doesnt force you to upshift before the rev-limiter. Even my regular autostick TCM would only do 5500 in 3rd.

Best race i had in my intrepid was 20-75 vs a 2000-2004 mustang 4.6 GT auto which i assume was stock.. It was dead even, so from mid 16s to that, i was happy:thumb:
