Has anyone attempted to put a heim joint on the end of a 90+ 523/568 style shift cable ? I have this old broken cable here (snapped the shifter end eyelet of the selector cable off) that I found yesterday and thought about putting a heim joint on the end. Cleaned up and threaded the end of the rod sucessfully so I figured I've got nothing to lose attempting it ?

looking on mcmaster carr I found several different ones that all looked like they would work great for it.

do it, and post results with pn's. I'm sure you'd save a lot of people time and headache if this turns out successfully

dorman has new ones pn 16653 if you want as well

I think this would work extremely well. The flex of the joint taking up movement of the cable versus a bushing. Plus stronger as well. Awesome idea!!!

The dorman cable is JUNK. Wasted $60 on that POS and it was broken out of the box.

Hit a bind here. The threading on the rod is 1/4-28 and I need a 5/16" hole in the end bearing to fit over the shifter pin. Stupidity rules and the thread size is directly tied to the hole size in the end bearing in every catalog I have looked in. :(

Helicoil or some kind of sleeve/JB weld might work. I've had some success packing a hole that wouldn't normally fit with JB weld, drilling, then tapping. After that you could always lay a couple spot welds on the end as well once you get it adjusted. Worth a shot.

A few of us have just cut up a little piece of aluminum and put a locking screw in. Heim would be a cool fix and less ghetto.

Someday i would like to see a better cable that is...shorter.
