how to identify cams?

how do I identify a cam? I have several cams that came off of several different 8v heads. Each one has different numbers on them. And each cam seems to have a different grind. How do I determine which is which?

You have to take them to a machine shop, or cam grinder, who has a cam doctor, then they can measure the cams. You can narrow it down if there turbo or not by looking at the non gear end, they sometimes stamp them with a "T" or "Turbo"

The cam I put on my head seemed to have a higher lift and a longer duration then the other cams I have.... I hope its a turbo cam:).... how many different 8v turbo cams did they make?

Well then that sir would be a TBI cam. :) They have higher lifts and more duration.

TBI's don't have any overlap, right? Or am I mistaken here?

The 88 and 89 TBI cam lobes are visably different. The 88 has a much wider point on the lobe.

This doesn't help much but it is nice to know if you have a few cams laying around and forget which is which.
