id like to take the time to share w/ everyone my lil history of TD. i got hooked about 10 years ago, when my uncle bought a 90 VNT Daytona. i could remember got to his house and want to go for a romp. from that first 1st gear shift to 2nd while the tires were on fire i had taken the bait, i was what 17 at the time!

while he was driving it one day, energeticly, the 180,000 lil vnt took a crap. after a few years of building it,motor was done by opel engineering in streem wood, MP overside valve head, bal shaft removed...
he put it back together and decided to sell it.?

he gave me first crack at it 1800 bucks! he spent just about that much on the head alone!

i drove it for awhile w/ the lil VNT on it not for long tho. i wanted more. I went ahead and did a complete tear down. had it in the garage for 4 years. doing this or that. scrounging up what i could.
2 years ago i ran into alil money so i decied to finish her up.

i picked up a precision intercooler, FWD "super 46" .63 stage2,FWD F3 cam, +40,3 bar, accufab reg, 8 gal cell, 255 external, new3/8 fuel feed, -6 and-8 fittings and lines, aem wide band greddy EGT autometer boostgauge, new suspension around chassis comp., New half shafts, MSD 6al,.

theres alot more but dont want to start to bore yall.it was like christmas in Aug. '08!

we worked on it for 3 months straight, got a bunch of people to thank on that. long night, beer buzzes, break kleen buzzes, and the greatest shop dog ever,Graham.

last thanksgiving time, i was finishing up the car ready to fire it up. i was on hold because i was waiting for my SBEC to come back from FWD. Cindy was working o kick --- tune for this thing.

thanksgiving day some a**hole went and burned my house down!. it was a direct attack against my car! they had poured gasoline all over the front and lit a match. ( we were out of town for the holiday). in a matter of 3minutes it traveled to my house and engulfed it too. it destroyed my car, house and Killed my boy Graham, (we talked about him earlier).

i lost everything i had. i had my life tho and i was thankful enough. as far as my dog goes ill never have that back.
as for my car, a total loss! i managed to salvage the motor, trans, inter cooler, turbo, and suprising the -6 -8 and fuel system stuff, haha my fuel system worked. nothing burnt or leaked, as my fuel cell was still full.

here some pics of the blue VNT

I started to post like a child and say something based solely on the pictures but then decided to read. The pictures: Great! Car looked amazing.

The beginning and middle of the story: Great! Nice intro there.

The end: Wow! I am so sorry to hear that. Any result from investigation? I cannot even think how many memories were lost.

we can rebuild her, make stronger, faster, and bor beautiful! er well parts of her, the shell was hauled off to the scrapper for a lousy 25 bucks!

this is where my angel comes in. 1 month later i found a 91 daytona for sale right in my neighbor hood and never new about it. found her on craigslist.

she was rough. broken battered, but she ran!. remember the movie christine?
i took her home for a grand cash. running on 3 cylinders:thumb:.

started messing w/ the body a bit and had fixed the missing cylinder. bad injector.

and just drove her around for a bit. one day wouldnt u know it p/s pump craped out on me. so while i was fiddiling around w/ the rear bolt on the pump, i droped my wrench, right onto the turbo coolant line DOH!

in learning this u have to pull the turbo off to get the coolant feed line off the turbo.so thats when i made up my mind. i took the head, turbo, i/c, press reg, d/p, i/c piping, injectors, and the cam out of the burned up car. clean, fixed, and repainted all that applyed. to get what i have today.

13.53@ 101 on a 91 SBE2.5 T1, G head, F3 cam and 3bar map setup, on a bald street tire.

thanx man that was my baby! were still in and out of court but hes charged w/ class 4 felony damage to property w/ fire or explosive and also reckless misconduct.

he should do some time. insurance totaled it and got a lousy 2300 bucks. thats less than what i spent in the big purchase.

Keep all of your receipts!

The old Daytona looked like one of the cleanest Daytona's I've ever seen. Too bad the replacement doesn't look that beautiful.

oh it was clean, 9 years 180,000 miles of daily driving, ud think the car came from the S/W.

i even thought about keeping the burnt up shell just because of no rust. could put it on a rotisory (sp?) sand blasted and give it an acid bath and i think it would oh been fine.

even thru the idea of using that shel as a V8 RWD project got kicked around.

the white one is getting there. ive only had it for 9 months, think im doin pretty good so far.

My jaw was on the floor when Jaren first shared this story with me a while back, sad story :( hate cowards that vandalize or set fire instead fo dealing with their issues like men >)

Damn, seeing these pics, this was a sweet 90 G-body!

On the new... the '91's got a helluva start for what little time you got into it! :thumb:

Wow sir I applaud your love of these cars.
Not only is it disheartening to see your car maliciously burnt down but also your house.
I am glad that you found a replacement and in time I see this car surpassing the beauty of the blue car.
Its people like you that keep this hobby going!

well there are plenty of people that are just irresponsible children at heart..

and then there are GOOD reasons to get back at people that never reach the light of day...

Who knows which one it is in every case....

I like the white car!

What boost level was the 13.5 at? and did you mill the g-head at all?

I like the white car!

What boost level was the 13.5 at? and did you mill the g-head at all?
no mill on the head and runnin a .074 cometics w/ ARP studs
it was in the ball park of 25, i got a 20lb gauge and it was well past 20. it averages high 13s low14s on any given day, i think the cool weather played effect on it.

it was actually the 3rd pass ever on the car back in may.
1st run out

it went 14.79 at 97mph at 18 psi

2nd run @ 21 psi

14.02 @98

3rd run @ 25 or so psi

13.53 @ 101

4th run same psi

went 13.96 @ 97 mph
let out of it at top end cause i smelled gas BAD! i freaked got the car back to the trailer and loaded up.
turns out it was the return line was loose at the PR.

it would make a good 13.95 bracket car,

but i wanna go faster.

the motor seems to be happy she runs pretty rich 10.5-10.8 at about 48-50 psi static f/p. im runnin a flowmatched set of +40s from FWD,(they too were in the fire), accufab afpr, stock rail stock pump (new mopar), 3 bar setup and Ghead cal from cindy. timing is set @14*. i need to figure out how to back the fuel off somemore.

i have a theory that when she set up my cal, she had factored in the F3 cam i have. now i swaped the stock cam back in, i never was able too see a WB reading to see where it was w/ the F3 cam in it. would the shorter dur. and smaller lift cause it to run rich?

Vigo
10-23-2009, 01:10 PM
Well if the cam lets in less air and the fuel stays the same it would run richer. Sounds like you are overly safe on AFR. if you have 48-50psi fuel pressure doesnt that mean you're running an adjustable fpr?

22shelby
10-23-2009, 06:25 PM
yeah i am i just dont want to go much lower on FP, not on these injectors from 55 it would sit around 10.4-10.1 when i droped the pressure now it sits 10.8-10.4 w/ the stock cam installed. i figured id have to drop the pressure down to like 40psi static to get in that 11.5-11.0 range. that would only be 60-64 psi in full boost. isnt that kinda low. granted i do have a set of +40s, and ive also heard the flow rates were off per injector. i did how ever get a set of flow matched from cindy, but were they on the steep end. i need to get my injectors flowed to see where they stand.

or i do what ive been doing and just Giv'er, throw the cam back in turn the fp back to 55psi and go from there.

Vigo
10-23-2009, 07:44 PM
That amount of pressure is not gonna cause any problems. you could turn it down if you felt the need.

But like you said.. you can just put the cam back in and put your tuning time into that setup.

Wow that look awesome all cleaned up.
Keep up the good work.
On the topic of the +40's with the afpr.
I bet you can crack low 13's if you trim some fuel. Thats how the stage 2 mp computers made more power (besides the increase in boost).
Your A/f is WAY safe and prolly killing ya.
I bet if you leaned it out some the car would move liked a stripped --- ape

oh i know, this car has power i think it needs to be trimed in the cal tho i dont think my fuel system will be too happy if i pull it from the regulator.

i just got to thinking tho if i do the 2.2 swap into it im going to need a new cal anyways, which is now sparking my mind about leaving the 2.5L. my mission of blowing up the 160,000 mile SBE this year didnt happen! block is still strong!

now do i just leave it and see what and how far i can push this one:thumb:

no signs of cylinder washout either. at part throttle acceleration its DEAD NUTS ON, part throttle 3rd gear it will steadly drop from 14.7-15.0 sloping down real nice as boost and RPM climbs to 11.8-11.1 but peg WOT it creeps down to 10.8-10.4.

ok so i have'nt updated this thread in a bit...

so as Turbo kid was saing trim back some fuel... that and i did a tire mod for another trip up to GLD

top run of the day 13.21 @ 102.!!! still chasing down rich WOT conditions, i pulled way down on the pressure...down to 43 static + 24psi = 67psi on the big end....and im still on the stocker fuel pump..(OEM after market Airtex) yikes!!!!!! still have a decent idle well good idle, and she sits 14.7-15.0... at idle

so in short im not sure how much further i want to drop the pressure, but im also getting in he unsure range of boost, on this stock block!!! 24 ish on a 46trim stg1.. sooo now im looking at the tune!!!

nothing against the FWD stg5, it did get me those kind of #'s very safely on a 2.5 G head cal!!!

i just needs some fine tunning on the WOT!!! mabye a small P/W adjustment???? idk as much as i study i just cant seam to grasp a complete recal process!!! more of not sure of myself!!!

anyways i did however do a new "ricer" mod!!! these 2 decals, i know just gave me anxtra 25 HP lol !!!

Just because of association:thumb:

yeah i agree with plum crazy purple too! I was gonna paint my blue 89 daytona Shelby plum crazy/charcoal and put all the original decals on it so it looked like it came that way factory, but in the end i didn't have the heart to do it... i wanted to keep the car original, :o. I think on the Dodge cars it was called panther pink and for the Plymouth cars it was called moulon Rouge even tho they were the same colour but i could be wrong... i also remember seeing in a paint book that plum crazy was for Dodge and in violet was the name for Plymouth, :confused2: It's been a while since i seen the paint chip book.

ok i havent updated in a while... so now i have some real mods other than "a sticker haha" so a few months ago Mike Skibbie posted up a trans for sale that he bought from JT...A413..$XXX ok good deal, JT post up " jaren u need this trans" sweet done...need to come up w/ the cash... blah blah.. now its march and ive got some stuff to do...

now as far as mods on the trans, we belive it been built up and a RMVB... i havent looked into it yet but it seems to be a fresh rebuild at least... black paint, REAL clean fluid...

if anyone has anymore info on this trans... it was in a mini running decent times....before i have to open it up and look into it...please chime in....

also in the mix are the wheels and tires.... im a street car guy, will always be a street guy... so i opted for a set of 15" pumpers that im going to paint white, and i picked up a new set of 225/50/15 MT ET streets.... i know there not slicks, but i want to run a "sticky tire" on the street...and there about the best of the best!!!!so we'll see how they do...

ive got a suspension mod i have up my sleeve, im sure its been done before but i want to try it myself, to justify myself on this....thats why im not going to release any info on what im doing w/ it....

so ive got a bunch of stuff to do, along w/ getting my E brake working properly...and rear brakes...so if theres any of the Chicagoland guys wanna pitch in a sat or sun to get a trans pulled or installed, or what ever else.... ive got a big open garage and it strating to get nice out...

anyways, ill upload a few pics when i get em....

if anyone has anymore info on this trans... it was in a mini running decent times....before i have to open it up and look into it...please chime in....

I looked for the e-mail ad I placed when I advertized it for sale and couldnt find it... but from memory... Rebuilt with all the normal good upgrades ~40k miles, went low 14's in a full weight Mini behind a stock T2 2.5L only 2pc intake and cam...

ok ok ok.....so now i knew i would feel a differance w/ the new transmission....long over do!!! BUT holy$#@+ what a differance!!. in the old one the VSS didnt work....never realizing what an effect that had on the way the car drives.....

it shifts REAL smooth... even w/ my foot into it!! when i decelerate it doesnt burp and pop any more, when crusing, it stays up in rpm its seelf, for a bit more boost response!! shift on demand....always in first when i stop.....all in all it works WELL!!!

so i got a lil gutsy and swaped my F3 cam back in...WOW!!!! i have a whole new animal on my hands!!!!well be heading up top dagrove on thursday to giv'er!!! well se what she does!!
