I found an A555 with 130k on it.
Car doesn't looked modified at all, stock everything. The thing it, when I pulled the tranny, RED fluid came out, it smelled like ATF.

Since manual recommanded engine oil, how bad can ATF do to a tranny in 130k?

Thanks.

Some people run ATF, its usually fine if they didn't beat on it. You didn't say how much. If the price is right, and it does grind, you have a good core to rebuild. I would go thru it anyway,

Yeah, before 1987 they all had ATF in them. It was mainly for winter performance, IIRC. Looks like someone went old skool on that one, since the A555 came out in 1987.

I can pick it up for less than $90.

As easy as finding a manual TII car.

555s are much easier to find than 568s. The price seems worth it though.

I ran Dexron 3 in my 88 A555 for about 30K miles with probably 50 1/4 mile runs, 2 seasons of auto-x, and 2 clutches worth of abuse... at 20-25psi. If you don't want that trans, I'd gladly take it for that price :)
