I feel pretty dumb asking this, but where is a good place to wire in the boost gauge light so it only comes on when my headlights are on?

I just rednecked mine and jammed the wire right into the fuse panel for the dash lights. Even dims like that :).

I wired the one on my 86 Z when I had it to the original bulb wiring for the factory guage.

I have a traveler system in mine and wired it into there... somehow it worked?

Mine had a wire in the console going down to the shifter and I spliced in to that.

If you redneck it into a fuse, just remember to put it on the 'fused' side and not the 'hot' side of the fuse :thumb:

if you've got a multimeter or voltmeter or something, just start checking wires to see if they're switched power.

Thanks for the help guys.

I ended up looking up which wire at the fuse panel is for the dimmer (it's the tan one in my '90 voyager) and I just crammed my boost gauge light wire into the same part of the fuse panel.

The light seems pretty bright though compared to the rest of my gauge lights. Can I use a resistor (what size?) to bring down the voltage?

Is it just a bare bulb? You can buy well I call them bulb condoms that slip over the bulb to change their color to match your dash lights. It also dims them down a bit. I know summit sells them but I can't remember what they are really called. Took me awhile to find them the last time I looked.

Yeah it's just the bare bulb. I'm very interested in that part you are talking about; I was going to try to find a greenish bulb but it sounds like that part will kill two birds with one stone. :thumb:

I just picked some similar ones up at autozone for $2.

Simliar here, but I spliced into the HOT wire for the light for my defroster. The switch is illuminated when the lights are on, so I thought "Hey, why not". Worked pretty good.

It does not get much easier than splicing into the sterio wiring. No guessing, and it will come on and dim with the headlights.

Heh, you're thinking faster than me :o That comment reminded me of WHY I spliced into that particular section - dimmer ability :thumb:
