I have visited a couple dirt tracks down here in the south. They have a class that we don't see much of up north called Stinger. Basically it has to be a stock 4 cyl, gutted with at least 4 point cage.

Here is a link to the rules.

http://deepsouthdirt.com/Stinger_Rules.html

Some tracks allow a 6 cyl but we want to run a 4 so we can hit more tracks.

What do you all think would be a good car to run? Obviously it has to be priced accordingly similar to a car that you want to race and beat the snot out of. I'd like to find something for 500 or less. Powerful 4 banger but reliable but also handles good stock. Obviously light on it's own because I can't lighten it except for removal of the interior which poses as a fire hazard.

Crap I didn't know they built a dirt track in loxley. Class sounds similar to the "hornets" they run on the 5/8s asphalt oval close to my house. 1st gen neons own all in that class.

we just went to South Mississippi Speedway. The stingers are fun to watch the Honduh's owned the show this past weekend. I would love to sport a Mopar but the fans wern't really into it. I might end up building a bomber or street stock.

LOL you learn the correct way to say Saucier and Gautier yet? They have a 1/4 mile in Gulfport too.

1st gen neon just flies out of my brain at that question too. But they are getting rare and im getting sadder and sadder to see em keep getting trashed.

Anything decent you can get for cheap is a good way to start, lol.

I have a g20 with minor wreck damage that would be perfect for that, its totalled and i dont want to bother with title stuff, but its got fairly balanced handling and a strong sr20 4cyl.

Thanks for the link MilkCarton. I would love to run a dodge. There is a girl down here that has a 93 n/a LeBaron that needs a water pump. She wants 400 but I'm sure I can talk her down.

Vigo I can't believe they would single out a Neon. The Neon's ran fast over here but it was the Honda's that took it. Although the problem might have existed in the driver seats of the Neons..lol

a lebaron is a heavy body to run a tbi in and expect to move very well...

If i was gonna make a tbi car quick id do it the way i already did it.. with a 2500 lb aries. I got it to run about 17.0, down from 19.2.

I'm actually going to look at a 93 twin cam Saturn. This past weekend we watched a Saturn fly around the track "Deep South Speedway" (different track from last week). He was fast on the straights but struggled in the turns. Had a mean push.

I just picked up an 89 shadow ES for $125. Im taking some stuff out of it but id give it to you with enough stuff to put it back together for the same $125.

Its about as light as a k-car gets (next best thing to an aries) and has a 2.5.. therefore could be made about the same as my aries tbi was with simple mods. It'll also handle a good bit better than some of the heavier and softer cars like a lebaron.

Do they let you run 5spd?

Yeah I can run a 5spd, actually that is what I was hoping for. But San Antonio is quite a hike for a stinger.. lol 10 hours to be exact.
