View Full Version : BSX-002 build...

I bought this car from a fellow member in August. The car came with a 8v 2.2, that had a load of LWP parts on it along with a GT35R turbo. It did pretty well on the dyno, 407whp and 335 on 18psi pump gas with a mild tune. It ran great, but I wanted another hybrid car to run on the street. And I wanted the creature comforts as well, air, etc..

This will be a similar combo to what the Shadow had until '06, in fact a few parts will be put back into service that came from that setup. It is a 2.2 shortblock, T2 rods with ARP wav-loc bolts, JE hybrid pistons with @ 8.7:1 CR. The head is a early 2.0/2.4 piece that Steve Menegon went through and worked some magic;) It has SI stainless valves with a 3 angle valve job. Exhaust will be fairly simple, an ATP cast turbo manifold for now, I was going to make a SS header, but I need to get this together so time is of the essence. Re-using the GT35R that came with the car, Turbosmart 38mm wastegate, and stainless DP. The intake side will be a bit different too, I'll be using 5" D-shaped plenum with a 60mm Jeep TB.

Gotta run, heading to work updates and pics later...

I look forward to seeing the build Brian.

Since this is the BSX-002 does that mean you plan to build over 100 of these? That would be awsome!!

Plenum material showed up last week. The flange material and runners will be here this week, so I can get started. The head will be bolted on for good and the hotside mounted. I finished up the t-stat outlet last week. I brought it out the drivers side freeze plug in the head, same way as the BSX. Looks like a T3 top hose will drop in and work perfect.

The A/C will consist of all T3 parts. It gives me the most room at the manifold area(#1 cyl.) and is still a direct bolt in as far as lines, brackets, etc. go. The car will still use dual ems setup, SBEC to get all the factory gauges, a/c, and idle speed working and SDS to control spark and fuel.

Pics below show some of the mock up parts and different pieces I was trying. I'll get some better ones as the top end goes together.

I'll get a pic today for you. What is his current drain setup like? Is he using a restrictor? How is the bottom end as far as compression, leakdown goes? In the Shadow I use a -10 drain on the passenger side of the head in the rear and a -12 an on the drivers side of the head. The feed has a .090 restrictor in it. For the Daytona I will be using 2, -10 lines from the back of the head.

Got some fab work done. I milled an intake flange so now I can start fabbing the intake. I also got the top end bolted on and sealed up. The downpipe is almost complete, just needs a flex section, O2 bung and a v-band. The wastegate needed an offset flange setup to allow the downpipe clearance. If all goes well, it may fire before the end of the month:D

What is your welder setup Alan? Material? Thickness? Amps? Electrode? Gas flow CFH? Possible contaminated or bad shielding gas? Don't take much to screw up with so many possibilities.

Great! I put about 35 miles on it so far. Needed to add a bit more fuel to the cal from what the 8v had. Drivability is nice. Boost seems to hit pretty low, rpm wise. Need to get some more miles on her and some tuning. I'll try and get it to the track in couple weeks.

What did you end up doing for the intake? Any pics?

turbo2point2
10-08-2009, 06:57 PM
A few shots of how it sits now. The intake was a small challenge. Even with the T3 a/c compressor on there it still blocked a straight entry for the #1 runner. My way around it was to use curved runners.

Car runs fantastic at minimum boost(7psi) I did a few highway pulls with it to get the a/f adjusted. Gonna drop the oil and filter after the weekend and turn up the boost:thumb:

Looks great. :thumb:
Did you flatten the runners out at the head side or leave them round? If so do you have any tricks of the trade for that? Everytime I seem to try that I crack the aluminum. I have a guy that wants me to build an SRT4 manifold and I would like to do it complete without using the stock runners but I was worried about the "ovaling" part. Maybe I am being over cautious. It is either that or mill up a piece going from oval to round with the injector bores in it which would really drive up the price.

Yes, I flattened or ovaled the runners at the flange. No tricks here, just used 6063 alum. tubing. The 6063 doesn't seem to stress crack from working it.

Little update... Went to Cecil to help out a friend get his Omni dialed in for the SDAC-Q16. Figured I would run the Daytona. Since I wasn't there to work on my stuff, I only made this one run. I didn't even set the tire pressure on the drag radials. Boost was 16 psi...

r/t - .082
60' - 2.416- Wow, maybe should have lowered the pressure a bit lol
330 - 6.195
1/8 - 9.145
mph - 85.42
1000 - 11.644
1/4 - 13.746
mph - 107.56

It's a start. Definitely need some tires if I wanna try and make the Q16;)

I am still trying to work out the logistics of bringing both cars myself. My brother might be able to come out for a couple of days, and hang out for the drags. If he doesn't have his own car ready to run, he can tow my car out. If that doesn't work out, i'll just have everything ready to go, and run home the night before the drags to go get the Horizon.

With being in Boston the whole week before SDAC, it's unlikely the SC will make it down in full form... Already paid for Drags and autox too if either of you need help with a car and want to take my spots (my treat all ready paid). Could also tow something with the Durango too.

Street tires, that's right. I didn't want to do any work at the track;) Rubber is a Hankook RS-3

I managed to make 4 runs last night. Off the bat @ 19 psi she went 13.51 @ 110.24 Second pass went 13.18 @ 111.55 Cut the best 60' on this pass, a whopping 2.32, lol. The third pass, the best of the night @ 21psi:

r/t - .146
60' - 2.408
330'- 6.077
1/8 - 8.833
mph- 90.65
1000'-11.159
1/4 - 13.144
mph- 114.46

It's showing some promise with the mph, but the street tires make for some interesting launches:o. I need to get some slicks under her to see what she what she will do.

Different car, that's why I labeled it BSX-002;) Only thing the same is the driver.

I should have the 2 step hooked up soon enough which will make for more consistent launches. Slicks and wheels are next on the list to get. Then a better intercooler, oh, and the header should be done in the fall:evil:
