After a couple years of not sure where I'll be working next, I decided not to wait any longer and restore the exterior of the Daytona.

Thanks, they did a good job on them. Get some better rubber on them in the spring.

Car has been delayed until next week, so the Daytona is going to miss Moparfest.

Got my decals from LaserXT1986 yesterday ... they look great.

With the new job and deaths in the family the Daytona has been taking a back seat for a bit. But I was able to get the stripe done. It's a little heavier then the stock stripe and a little darker like the paint on the wheels.

I did them in a slightly darker gold to match the rims and belt stripe. I'm liking the changes from stock. Now I have to figure out how to get the fender "CS: emblems and the tail light lettering to match.

As a side note I have a stock set of these for sale in the OEM gold if somebody needs them.

The colour I used is 09 Toyota gold. The 3M bronze is what I used for the stripe and decal. They match pretty close to perfect. Not sure the code for the stock gold but it is much lighter.

Thanks, yeah I did a quick write up when it was painted. Problem is the paint on the front fascis cracked while sitting in the garage this winter. Have to get it redone this winter ... hopefully properly this time ... and it matches.

There were a couple other L-bodies scattered around the show.

They told me that they did use the flex agent! That's what ticks me off.

J&H Ryan
10-14-2011, 08:26 PM
I thought it was urethane, but in any case, its not the flex agent that is causing the paint to chip. Its crappy paint or blended to be too brittle. Chances are the bumper will crack before non-flex agent paint does. OR bad paint will CAUSE the bumper to crack. Paint is weird stuff. It becomes one with the substrate. Or in your case, not.

(former OEM paint dude)

banger68
10-15-2011, 09:37 AM
Well this cracked just from the cold. It didn't get bumped. The back bumper is fine so I presume they were not sprayed at the same time. They were both off the car when painted.

Cleaned up the rims before I pack them away. Have to remember to ask the shop what they used on the bare aluminum.

Just need to paint the engine bay the can start assembly. Decided the hold off on the 2.4 and put it in my old 89 Shelby to tinker with. Going to drop in the 89 T2 for now instead.

I logged in today to resurrect my 4 year old project thread, so I was happy to see this one too. We're keeping the cars alive, that's what matters.
Great build so far, are you starting to work on it again?

Things are rusty from sitting so chased all the threads in the K-Frame before I break something.
