My dad purchased this car a month or 2 ago at an auction.....200 BUCKS:confused: RAN AND DROVE, top works, windows work, top works.

Powersteering doesnt work, put a pump in it, it was bad, but the rack is dumping fluid out as fast as you can pour it in, so i'll be replacing that when the local you pull has a 'all you can pull' for cheap. Car has 166k on it,,Besides that, it runs good, has truck/mud tires in the front, definatlly pretty beefy.

The day we brought it home:

Since we've owned it, The radiator support was all torn up, probably from a previously bad motor mount, thats all welded up, We fixed the rusty floors drivers and passengers, pulled all the interor out, scrubbed and powerwashed the carpet, I took the car to work 2 weeks ago and fixed the couple of dents it had and primed the drivers side, and trunk lid. The passenger side has a big dent in the door that will be fixed soon. I need a grille, it has some ghetto mesh in it now...not my doing lol but looks decent, better then nothing. Just today I got the AC TO WORK :hail: The top has a hole in it, and the rear window is just hanging there, I have driven it in the rain, i dont get wet either does the passenger, not so much for the person in the rear, that gets dumped on, oh well, Need to buy a top now, Our oginal plan was to just fix it up and sell it well I dont mind driving it, might just throw a top on it, repaint it, convert to TII, and 5 speed, 14psi of fun :eyebrows:

Pics from today:

lol at your truck tires!

The body looks ok, just need a door and top for the most part. I had an 86 baron of the same style that i started a turbo conversion on and never finished, but ive wanted one back practically since the day that one left.

body work is cheap i'll straighten the door :eyebrows:

Next week i'll probably be doing that, and priming the other side of the car, then comes the hood and front header pannel, which both need a good amount of work, espcially since someone decided to just dump mud all over the header pannel and its now all cracked:confused:

Went to the local U pull it, they had a all you can haul on a wheelbarrow day, well grabed almost everything to 5 speed swap it.

Once i get bigger injectors and intercooler for the daytona, this car will be getting the stocker ic, and 40+s

A top is also on the list too, its parked now for the winter, probably wont update again till it comes back out on the road.

Swapped in a 88 daytona cs steering rack tonight, man what a pain in the ---, but its done now, but too late to put on the belt to confirm everything, so we'll see tomorrow how it works for sure.

The only thing i find is hard about swapping the steering racks is getting the coupler lined up if you dont have someone to help you.. oh man that's an annoying task alone..

yeah it was a pain, along with lifting it up but a jack, mutiply would have been nice, and blocks of wood worked ok.

Got it finished up tonight, works awesome NO LEAKS! and man does it turn nice!

Well that time of year again, hopefully going to get tags for it soon, as for now I have the money for a top, got quoted a lil over 800 BUCKS FOR THE TOP INSTALLED, holy freakin cow, but a 'good top' was around 500 or so, so for 300 bucks I'll pay someone to do it, but now its just a matter of biting the bullet 800 bucks is alot for a 200 dollar car, but then at least its driveable all the time, its just hard cause I've got my eye on a PDR tool set and daytona ic piping and suspension and tires and man the list goes on.

I hear you. I'm thinking about just taking the whole top and frame off of mine for now. That weight savings would be pretty sweet.

My dad ordered a top for this on Friday should be installing it sometime next week or so, I'll take a ton of photos and maybe write some sort of DIY top install, since I know alot of you guys are interested in tackleing it. Other then that I was DD the car for about a month, its nice having a reliable TM, get in and go, no BS. Had an O2 sensor problem fixed it and now I am suspciaous, since I always reset the trip when I fill up, either the gas guage is working incorrecntly or I'm getting 25+mpg vs 18, I still find it hard to believe but man that would sure be awesome We'll find out next time I fill her up!

Agreed. Scrounge up some Omni transfer gears and low 30s at 55-65mph should be a reality.

one of my first tm. it was a 84 got for 75 bucks needed a timing belt. top worked like a champ but it had no rear floor boards my oldest rode up front when i took her to school. sold for over 100.00 still would like one of them, very comfortable car to drive easy in and easy out. unlike the daytona but daytona has as way been easier on the eyes

I will be installing a new fender, bumpers and a header panel, unfortunately it'll have a New yorker grille/header panel as that is all I can find at the local yard. If anyone has a 600 grill let me know though!

Also if any mods see this, can you change the spelling of convertible in the threads title, Thanks!

Pulled the huge buckle out of the passenger door today.

I ended up like I thought, have to weld a tab onto the body line and hook it up to the morgan knocker, aka big --- slide hammer, and while pulling hit the rolled out edge with my hammer, no biggy just time consuming.

wow, car looks great. Could you give the details on the type of paint and clear you used?

The paint was transtars 'no mix' formula we are the first shop in south dakota to use this system. It works great, and the price is even greater. Mixed up a pint of W2 and it is mixed 1 part paint to 2 parts reducer so you get alot of bang for your buck, I did the underside of the hood and entire car body with just a tad over a pint of paint, at 30 bucks thats CHEAP! I used Transtars high end Glamor Clear

http://www.tat-co.com/products/clearcoats/signature-series-glamour-clearcoat-9461/

Its thinner then what we typically used I sprayed transtar 7021, which is what I spray on everything at work, I figured I'd use the best of the best and see how nice I could get it to lay, the glamor is thinner so you can get it to lay a little nicer, less peal = less buffing and just looks better. I really wished I had this kind of experence and this clear when I did my daytona cause it looks better but oh well. As far as primers and sealers, I block sanded the cars factory paint, and feathered any peal, sprayed transtars polyester primer on it, very high build and great for blocking, then sprayed nason 421-19 primer and then wetsanded that, followed by transtar sealer, then paint then clear.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. More pics to come

The car is 99% back together. I have to try and PDR, Paintless dent repair, the chrome trim around the convertible top, They have some good sized dents in them and figured anything I can do will make it look better. so we'll see how that turns out, as of now I have the car home and now to start on the interior, Anyone have any seats/carpet for sale? Also need to install the top, climate control and fix some engine oil leaks.

One thing I can suggest if someone else is restoring one of these style cars with the chrome trim, REPLACE the trim it make all the difference and it make the car look amazing! I even have some leftover Id be willing to sell pretty cheap, since it was either buy a 20ft roll or 60ft roll, and 30 vs around 70 its a no brainer.

Windshield is in, along with the trim but I didnt take a picture of that quite yet. Now that we finally finished a deck on our house we can get moving along on the car and installing the new top, and now we have nothing holding us back.

well its nice outside again, time to get working on all my projects. I got another top frame from the salvage yard back in Oct. I decided to swap the whole thing since it appeared in better shape, my latches where bent and broken. Just painted the frame last night in a Semi Gloss (hot rod) black, now to install it and get moving on putting the top on.

Tore the motor apart Monday and Tuesday night, still looking on Headgasket options, figuring I should at least change it out, even though I have no issues, while its apart, since it will be the only gasket I wont be replacing, but I cannot get myself to you the felpro gasket after reading and having problems myself.

My Dad help out with some of these steps, he sand blasted all the brackets and painted them while I put the motor together. I was also able to pick up a mopar 005 Headgasket from another member!! So I was able to install a headgasket, and also decided to do valve seals while the head was off. My next big issue has been finding the proper turbo coolant and oil line adapters, pain in my ---, I realize ---- happens but when you dump over a hundred dollars into a set of lines I would expect them to just be able to be installed, so with much headache I figured out what I need and have got the appropriate adapter part numbers now to order and install the manifolds and reinstall the motor.

Owning and all original turbo 600 ES I was surprised to see the information in the following link.
It's a beautiful car and there is a second link to another convertible sold at the auction.
It's good to see these appreciated and your dedication to restore yours will heighten the satisfaction of owning a piece of history.

Just an update, I'd have this dam thing running by now but am having issues installing the turbo coolant line and oil line. I'm looking for adaptors had being stuck on the coolant return line, I don't wanna put the manifolds on till I know for sure I can makes these lines work, cause If I cannot I might have to try and extract the brass fittings from the turbo and judging by how the SV bolts worked that's not looking good. Wish me Luck! More pictures and progress to come

Oh! The turbo is off the car???
Soak the crap out of it with Kroil or PB blaster. Then be careful. Slug's came out even though the turbine got so hot it cracked all the way through.
If you do break a brass one, they will come out with an extractor. I was able to do the stainless braided coolant lines with the turbo installed. It wasn't without some frustration, but it can be done. Its much easier off the car though!

Well decided to say screw it, them dam fittings came right out, they were actually kinda loose!!!!!! bahhhh Well anyways I need to get one different fitting the coolant feed on the turbo side is a little bigger then my fitting, NPT isn't hard to find. But the coolant return, the problem line/fitting, and the oil feed came out easy. That's what I get for assuming stuff.

Anyone know the pipe thread on the turbo coolant feed side?
