I have a ND alternator sitting in my shed somewhere. How do I tell wether it it is a 90amp or 120 amp unit?

Thanks,

Mike Marra

Nevermind.

The Nippondenso 40/90A alternator used from 1989-1995. Identifiable by a tag which reads 'FAMILY 90HS' on OE alternators, or by the elongated ears on the rear housing for the mounting of the wiring harness. Similar versions of this alternator and its 120A sister were, and continue to be, used on all manner of Chrysler-built vehicles.

The Nippondenso 50/120A alternator used from 1989-1995. Identifiable by a tag which reads 'FAMILY 120HS' on OE alternators, or by the short, stubby ears on the rear housing for mounting of the wiring harness, and also by its oversized case.

I'll check out the one I have in the shed tonight and pass on the info.

Is there a tag on the alternator in question?

Not that I've found. The 90-120 thing would have been pretty obvious to me, but I have never been able to find any stampings, or tags on a ND alternator.

Here is a picture of the 90 amp and 120 amp denso alternators for comparison.

Sweet, looks like you got a 120 Gary. I will have to file this away in the old brain for easy IDing at the U Pull it.

I read somewhere that 120s have a part number ending in 683. And were standard on all 3.8 T&Cs
