View Full Version : The many itenerations of the Dodge Shadow

This car has seen many forms over the years. It all started around 2002-ish, when i picked up a '94 Shadow 3.0L V6 autotragic for my first car.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_images/1/920/441/2297720062_medium.jpg

Then riced it out pretty badly. LOL. Many of you have seen this car. If not here's it's cardomain page...
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/229772

That car was stripped down and scrapped. I found a VERY clean (rust free!!)shell of a 1992 Shadow that will now take on where this car left off. It's a 2-door also, which i was looking for.

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2541000-2541999/2541269_3_full.jpg

More "starting point pics" Paint peel galore! The rust starting is all surface, so the car is going to be stripped down to metal and resprayed. The primer is said to be the culprit, so really I have no choice but to strip all the paint and primer off. It will be resprayed the same color. (Bonzai Blue Metallic)

All the nastily painted exterior and interior pieces will be replaced.

Oh, I have Koni struts and shocks with Eibach springs for the suspension. :)
And here's the rear axle with the rear disc vented brake setup from a Shelby Dayona.

Here's a photo of the STS

And here's a Photoshop "Toon" rendering I did of what I'd like this car to look like when done. Of course, the carbon fiber hood probably will never be since it would cost me WAY to much to have a one-off one made. But I can always hope.

The wheels are FN01R-C's in the 'Toon. I really like those.

Good thing it has flowmasters. ha

The car was dropped off at S&S stripping off of mound road, i think that's still Warren, MI. not sure. I'm really enjoying seeing the car this clean. its amazing!

What was funny was after the car was unloaded, the wheel fell off of it as it was being pushed into the garage! the wheel breaing seperated! since the car is so light, it only teetered. LOL

here's some pics!

it's a slow process... espically when your daily driver is a certain diamond-star product that also likes a share of your resources. ;)

but thanks! I figued since it needed repainted.. mind's well "do it right." but that was quite a bit of work.

Nice job so far!

Do you do all of your own work?

Also, the wheel bearing failure... was that due to you rolling the chasis around w/out the axles bolted in? I am told the bearings need the axle stubs torqued to hod everything together, otherwise it will ruin them.

I need to start my project blog so as to get my azz in gear again and start working on it!

From an old R/T I robbed the drivetrain out of at a local JY, I kept the stub axle parts, cleaned them up, and use them in my current project which unfortunately... is just sitting. (but they are torqued up though!:))

Learn something new everyday here. I thought our cars used roller bearings in the front hubs, not ball bearings.

That's looking sweet MB. As you found the bearings will fall apart without the axels. Like Dirrectconnection, I kept a stub kicking around and I would torque it up to the bearing periodically to keep them tight. If you have two stubs like he does then the best is to just leave them in. The only question I have is why the hell would you put a 2.4 into a Shadow? :eyebrows:

..seems to have been addressed in the last pic. Learning is good!

Although i cant think of anyone learning that because the wheel FELL OFF! pretty cool! lol.

yea, its pretty cool seeing a car stripped down like that. :) i loved the sparkle in the metal.

Just got the talon back on the road today. So I'll be tuning it at the track thursday... my first car with a tunable ECU! then attention can shift back to the shadow.

I'm interested in seeing more, my 3.0 won't last forever...... i kid i kid, the damn thing won't blow up, 174,000 miles of throttle mashing and it still wont give up. Can't scrap it without a good reason, until then...... mash mash mash!

dodgeshadowchik
09-12-2009, 08:05 AM
I recently aquired a transmission for the car. :) traded some 3.0L parts for it. So now motor mount fabrication can commence... than paint. Car needs paint more than anything.

raccoon: got any pics of that low mile duster??

oh, i was considering a different color than the bonzai blue.... what do you guys think of a color like this:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a206/dodgeshadowchik/dsmshootout09/eclipse416.jpg

I like the darker shade.. then then i keep going back to the orginial. Here's bonzai blue on a dsm:

I think the paint depends on what you are going to do with the lower gfx.

If you're going to keep the lower gfx a lighter gray, I would go with the brighter electric blue.

If you're going to do the lower gfx in charcoal, I think that would look better with a darker blue.

Excellent progress, keep the pics coming.

Ok, well.... Found out why the car had a "gangsta" lean. The axle that was all prettied up and converted over to disc was tweeked. :(

Swapped in the axle that turbo-nate-or dropped off a year ago and the car sits normal again. Go figure. Well, this axle was already POR-15-ed... so it''l just need some touch up paint; and of course the goodies form the other axle. I shoulda known better than to use an axle form a car that was wrecked before.

Wow.. my camera phone sucks. I'll get better pics later.

It has been going for years now. LOL! Anyways.. I bumped the wrong thread. Going to make a real attempt at getting this wonderous piece of machinery back on the road....... its going to suck, as it's been used a parts bin for the last 3 years. So that is step one. Then got to fit the engine; then find someone to paint it. After that it should go pretty smoothly.... I think. Well, after all it ISN'T a DSM... so it should go easier.
