Symptoms of AIS not working?

K, I've been trying to track down this idle problem on my 86 TII SC for a year now to no avail... Checked for all vaccuum leaks, replace dthe exhaust donut. I converted the car to TII, but in order to get the car to start you HAVE to give it a bit of throttle in order for it to fire, once it runs the idle is too high or surges.

The car is also running a bit rich. (timing is correct as well)

Does the engine die when coming to a stop? Is it difficult to start?

A bad (or nearly bad) AIS can cause a host of weird problems. It's quite easy to replace--only two screws. Get another one from a junkyard and swap it to see if it runs better.
