Well since y'all have a pretty awesome section now I thought I would share my GTC convertible restoration.
A little back story on the car:
It was bought from a dealer for 600 dollars back in May in a running and driving condition. The car had a good top, good tires, and it ran fine. The unfortunate part is the car was bought by a 17 year old kid that had no appreciation for it at all!
In the next 2 months the kid smoked the tires off the front of the car, broke both axles, smashed out the rear window, flat spotted a rim by having a buddy of his DRAG the car with a flat tire in the rear cause the ebrake locked up, later had the seat slashed, fender knocked in and the top slashed by a local ricer who didn't think the car was worth anything, and then the kid proceeded to blow the headgasket. This car has seen some pretty rough times in the last couple months forsure! I bought the car with intentions of bringing it back to its former glory. Being a pretty rare beast with only 906 t2 GTC's being made in 89 (that is a correct statistic I think?) I figure it deserves to live again.
As the car sits this is what it looks like. Sad SAD shape

Please bring this GTC back to life! You are correct on the production
numbers. I would like to know how many had that color interior.

That color goes great with the Black!

It can live again! here's a pic of my '90 when I started:

With no rust issues, you're miles ahead of the game.

What's the story on the red car?

2.5 t1 car that has a messed up title

Well I go to yank the motor tomorrow.
I think this car is gonna get a fully forged 2.5 =)

Messed up title or no title? That red car is freakin nice.

The title has been *misplaced* and its a Kansas car that had a lean on it but the lean release was attached to the title =(
Its not bad. Everything works. did a lot of work to it. Its got a cracked flex plate which is why I stopped driving it since I have a dtag I can slap on it and drive it when ever.
Well I pulled the greasy motor outa the black beast today. It was nasty. All the motor mounts are screwed, the axles are toast, the strut thing on the motor mount on the passenger side is completely toast where is just stays down. No wonder the car had a bad vibration when driving lmao.
Here are some carnage photos

Cool. You were able to get some work done on it. Ah... You have dealer plates. That is a very nice thing to have. A guy I went to high school with had a dad who had become a dealer years ago in Indiana when it was easier to do. I'm pretty sure they still have them. Its actually cheaper when you have 20 cars;)

Nice job so far on your GTC, keep up the good work!

I've been wondering if maybe I should go that route...

They gotta be runnning lmao. Ya it is nice to pick a car and slap a tag on it and drive it.
The long term cars of course get registered but if I am just driving it to get by I put a dtag on it

Just a slight correction. There were 906 convertible TII GTCs made in 1989. There were also 1,033 hardtops.

Never mind that though. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a screw loose trying to save what most would call a lost cause. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Yeah the stuff guys save these days when it comes to classic V8 cars amazes me. Makes our little 80's rides look like a walk in the park. At least we have enough cars to choose from for sheet metal for now.

Oh man, I forgot you had the parts car. I had no idea you didn't have rust issues though. In that case it's like Tony said, you're miles ahead of the game. That thing's going to be easy to get the body up to snuff and ready for paint.

Well today is a sad day. Went to inspect the damage a bunch of vandals did to the yard. They snuck in over the fence and commenced to vandalize multiple cars. They bashed in the quarters, front clip, trunk, windshield and both front door glasses on this GTC destroying the car. I have pics.... but havent the heart to even wanna look at them anymore... Car will soon go to parts... I really can't justify 5k in body work. THey also bashed in the back hatch of my 89 Shelby Daytona. Filed a police report.
Hope they find who did this.
Consider this thread done...

The smiley does not exist that would show how pissed off that makes me. I can't even say how much that pisses me off right now. I'm so sorry man, I know how you feel. If it cheers you up at all I know of two GTCs for sale but they're both VNT. They're in the car dor sale section on the other forum.

Once again man, I'm very sorry to hear that. :(

Well bad news keeps coming. My white daytona i just put a motor in now blew 5th gear outa the trans. I started school so i will eventually get to parting the car someday

Wow you have worse luck than I do!! Do you beat on these cars relentlessly? lol

Nope I havent even driven my daytona 500 miles. Most of it was highway on the way back from st. louis.
Guy before me decided to hybrid the car so he put a fully rebuilt 2.5 with forged slugs in it for a bottom end. He ended up not putting the oil restrictor in the block when he put it back to 8 valve which then I decided to buy the car.
Huge list of mods and the car was smoking. Only smoked at idle and on the highway which he said was valve guides.
Get the car home from st. louis and I test compression and he popped the #3 ring. Put a motor in it and in the process of not having very much oil pressure he also popped the s60 on it. Get a motor in it and find the 5th gear doesn't engage. Figure its got a Maddog reverse lock out short shifter on it so it was just out of adjustment (by the way LOVE that short shifter). So I put the stock shifter back in it cause they are HELLA easy to adjust and you can drop the shifter back like its got a 6th gear and NO engagement at all in 5th gear. Supposedly a newly rebuilt a555 with a chromemoly plate. I am thinking the overdrive fork in the trans is effed...
In the midst of this the car had an issue where you could drop the clutch and the motor wouldn't catch itself. Fixed that. Got it running well. Dialed in the ignition timing. Got it running well and As I am bringing it home (in 4th gear on the highway) car dies and wont restart on the side of the road and pukes oil all over the side of the road. I am just so pissed at the damn thing I dont really care about its fate at the moment.
Solid body 87 daytona with a laundry list of mods and I havent driven the car in working shape since I got it in march.
Anybody wanna buy parts off of my GTC to fund my daytona? lmao...

Talk about something that would piss someone off quick. I betcha someone who knows of you did it though. I know it doesn't make you feel any better, but that just seems to be how it is. I remember when I told this guy how I was buying a daytona and sure enough mysteriously the cd player is missing from it at the guys house a day before I go to pick it up. People are low like that. I've done some stupid things before, but that is just low. Now what about the red GTC parts car? Are both the red and black one fubar?

they are both now parts cars. I'm not allowed to have a gtc convertible apparently
