View Full Version : Honda radiator in a TD

I'm wanting to do this since the Honda radiators are so tiny I can route intercooler pipes around it much easier than cutting up the car and using a stock rad. Anyone know if the Honda rad would be sufficient to cool a TD?

I'd like to use something like this:

and center it between the intercooler pipes.

This is one installed in the car for perspective.

You can find stock ones on ebay for less than $40 shipped, or pay a bit more (under $80) for an aluminum double core...

I think it'd work fine, I may use one in the Rampage. My brother's turbo'd B18 stayed cool w/ a Griffin rad that looked identical to that one. His B20/B18 11:1 compression hybrid engine stayed fairly cool on a stock Honda rad. I think those aluminum aftermarket ones like that will be fine for a drag car or daily driver. May have problems in something that sees extened WOT or hard running, IE road course car, or a trip up some mountain roads :)

I asked the same thing months ago but didn't get an answer.

I will say this, I had an Omni come in shortly after I posted, he was running a Honda rad and it liked to run hot, :(

Use an L-body radiator, I test fit one in my lebaron and I used the stock mounts on the pass. side and on the drivers side I'll have to move the factory mount over a couple of inches. You'll still have to trim the core support some but there is a ton more room to run pipes through.

Yeah, L-bodies had a 15" rad that will give you good clearance on a larger car.

napa still carry 2 row omni radiators. The only problem you might have is you my have to chop up an omni lower radiator.

look it up as a 89 omni headvy duty w/ a/c

I cannot imagine that little radiator being able to cool a high output iron-block turbo engine, especially when it's sitting behind a front-mount intercooler.

its a heavy duty two core why wouldnt?

i dont know if i like that honda "style", stick with the origanal cross flow design, it cools way better. im runnin a three row copper and brass radiator, with a fan shroud that covers the whole core, i had to have them stretch the tanks to fit the core in (wider not taller).

maybe turn a three row honda on its side and have a shop weld up the honda filler neck, then weld a new filler neck on the top of the outlet of radiator. hmmm, i think il try this, my friend works at a radiator shop and tig welds aluminum. im gonna put it in an omni, so il let u know how it goes.

Im assuming this is for your shadow. I put a used omni brass radiator out of a 86 omni in mine years ago and it worked great. They are around 2 1/2in wider then a t2 unit, gave me plenty of room for IC pipes and to run the intake to in front of the radiator. Never had any cooling issues unless I hot lapped it 3 or 4 times at the track. Your stock fan should also bolt on, so that will save some $$$ too.

We have a civic radiator in my brother 87 Shelby Z and it works fine, I guess you just have to get a 2 core one of of an auto car and not a single core in a manual car.

OE or aftermarket race unit?

I beleive it was an OE civic radiator... it came that way... I can check it out and get pics when I get home next.
