Last night I installed the my new bobble strut bracket on my GLHT k-frame. Im using a Poly Bushings solid bobble strut w/ my 520/555 hybrid trans....... so now the question.

A 3/8" bolt fits loose in the bobble strut, and a 7/16" bolt fits tight. My thoughts are that there should not be any play in the bolt, but what is everyones thoughts?? Right now Im planning to redrill the holes in my bracket for the 7/16" bolt, so if I shouldn't do this, let me know.

thanks!

You should be using Metric, then there is no play-:p . I think the bolt size is 12mm. I have used a slightly smaller bolt before and as long as its tight, you won't have any issues.

that would be nice if a metric bolt fit.

10mm to small (about the same size as a 3/8" bolt anyway).

12mm way to big.

There is no 11 mm.

Probably supposed to be 10mm. It is ok if it is loose cuz the joint is designed to be held together with clamp load on the steel sleeve in the dogbone that the bolt goes through. If it is clamped correctly, there is no relative movement and the clearance doesnt matter.

as much slamming goes on with the engine/trans when you hit it at 4000 or 5000 RPMS from the starting line, I dont think any amount of clamping force will hold it. Not to mention that clamping force is 90' out from the force causing movement.

Start lifting weights bro... I hit mine from 4k-5k all day long on slicks :thumb:

oh dont worry, I can get it *plenty* tight, but I guarantee it still moves around regardless of how tight you get it.

Using a larger bolt wont' alleviate the issue, it will just patch it for a while. I am using the PB mount also and having no issues.

Yeah, using a larger bolt will not allow any movement in the K-frame side of the PB bobble strut. Im not having any issues breaking anything (hell, I just welded the new mount on last night), but a 3/8" bolt in a 7/16" hole is a lot of slop for something that is loaded everytime the engine torques.

Do you press your strut mounting bolts into your spindles too? Potholes should make your car fall apart! ;)

Clamp load works for me on my double rod end rear trans mount on my Z, but then again my front mount is welded up too so nothing moves in my drivetrain :thumb:

well, that may make a difference then! ;) I still have rubber/poly holding my engine/trans in place!

So why are you woried about a little bolt moving when you got sloppy mounts? ;)

cause I dont want to either (a) rip the new bracket off or (b) wollow the hole out that the bolt goes through and make it even worse! ;)
