View Full Version : My Hybrid daytona

Since Nate (1985ShelbyCharger) is going a different route he sold off all of his hybrid parts. I bought them.
The engine was almost ready to run, but I wanted to run a Dizzy, and I have to fab an intake since it is crushing the oil filter, and I want to change the oil pan since there is one drain that is in a really REALLY bad spot (hits the trans, and cannot get to trans to engine bolt)
But the engine is in (if I had known that I was getting the trans as well, it would be in also)

and my Koni adjustables!

Figured Id post it in here since the 'what have you done to your car' thread is buried by SDAC and political threads.

Why not just get a remote oil filter mount?

looks good, your better of to run a remote oil filter as you will have to remove the intake manifold to change the filter. i HAD to do that on my 16v.

Yeah, Im going to run a Dizzy cam set up so I am hoping that I can use my short runner intake. Im afraid that with the long runner and the +.40 2.5L (by my calculations thats 3.1L?) it will be making enough torque to have NO traction EVER.

Ive been looking at remote oil filters though.

What size turbo? Completion eta??????

I am hoping to have it finished with in the week, but not actually FINISHED for a bit yet. The trans is going in this week, Im hoping to have the oil pan dropped and the drains fixed this week, Im just waiting on the oil filter adapter and R_Bryants dizzy adapter and wires.

The turbo is an E-Bay special 50/63 T3/T4. WHEN it blows up I will be looking for a holset.

I seem to recall seeing a spiffy powder coated valve cover in your garage that should bolt right on that engine.

looks good, your only about 6 months ahead of me I think!

Good news if you're worried about torque: .040 over will NOT get you anywhere near 3.1L. You're looking at 2.5L max.

You may have done the math based on 0.40 instead of .040.

My 2.5l 16v was making about 325 WTQ @ 2700rpm and with a set of MT ET drags I didnt have any trction issues. How ever, with street tires i did. it also pulled verry hard from 3000rpm to 7000rpm.

>_< yeah i ment .04 when i calculated it. was having one of those moments..
The trans is goin on tomorrow. Had a bit of a SNAFU with the clutch this morning but that is taken care of.

Is it one of those things where you never have the alignment tool? Im getting good at not needing on these.. hehe

Darkapollo

actually.. it was a SNAFU on the part of the company (Borg Warner. The I have the alignment tool, spline count is correct, TOB is correct, the PRESSURE plate is WAY to small.

Thankfully I have the TU PP to use. (not using the 4puck after all, didnt want to swap to a523 style cable and shifter)

If i where you i would go with the 4 puck. the power potintal with the 16v the stock clutch simply WILL NOT be up to the challenge!!!!! I was running a 6 puck w/ yellow PP in the daytona and after laying fown 335wtq @ just over 2500rpm on a STOCK computer i'm thinking about up grading to a 4 puck with the purple PP or even the rev lok clutch.

Hmm
Ive been playing a ballancing act with the trans set up. One one hand I have a 523 17spline, 4puck clutch. and on the other is a 555 and stock clutch. car has 555 cables already, so that was what made my final decision.
However, the trans is not in yet so nothing is set in stone. the more you talk from expieriance the more you influence my direction on this project.
Guess ill go find a set of 523 cables. thank god i have a small collection of 523 shifters! one less part to buy.

Update
Trans is installed, wiring harness is installed, engine bay is cleaned up a bit..

Yes, as you can see from some of the pics, the car is in my back yard, and we pulled the engine in dirt and mud since it had just poured rain all morning.

Im the guy in the black shirt, Tony is the shorter of the two guys in white shirts, steve is the tall guy with glasses and jeans. Both of them are honda nuts. Both of them have stupidly fast turbo Del Sols.

You could tell they were Honda guys because they're wearing latex gloves to work on a car. Or did you make them ware the gloves?

I hear you.. I've been working under my Daytona and there is a coating under it thats like tar. I don't know if this is an underbody coating or just the result of a 15 year old oil leak.
