Who has performed a Super 60 conversion, how much did it cost? Were the results worth it, is it still fun to drive or more fun? Would you do it the same way all over again, change something (s) or would you NOT do it again if you had the chance.

I'm considering the change so thanks for your input.

I did the whole Super 60 deal back in 1997 and it cost a fortune to buy all the components. ( $6000.00) !!! not counting a Shelby Z donor car and custom Wiesco pistons. Although it was and still is fun it's old technology by todays standards. Back then there wasn't the info available like today so it was essentially the only game in town. The turbo is still pretty good and the 3 bar map is still current. The cam is decent but many have had early failures although mine is still fine. GLHS's already have the 2 pc intake but that was one component at only $204.95 that was a relative bargain. It's been lots of fun but you could do much more for much less $$ today.

Thanks
Randy

im doing something comparable but it wont cost that much. stock t2 bottom end ported head intake and exhaust with +1 valves and a 60trim t3 off a ford i got for sixty bucks. bigger front mount and it will be a custom cal since i wanna run e85 and the s60 cal doesnt have o2 feedback and is pretty agressive. but i do plan on making 300/300 just like the super sixty kit

I always wanted to get the Super 60, but cost prevented that. Then it was gone...and I didn't keep up on the current Turbo Mopar news....until I found this site!

What is the current setup preferred over the Mopar S60 deal? And are the hp #'s 300/300 like they were shooting for or is there more available for less investment with today's tech? I remember they were shooting for complete streetability and a smooth idle, not some drag only car that needs to be trailered. I always liked dragging my stock GLHT and making 3 hot time trial passes in a row right off of the 1 hr trip to E-Town in NJ and having a pretty consistant car for the race. No breakage so I could drive home with some confidence!

the current setup is whatever you want from the vendors since most of the stuff that was used is no longer around and out of date.

I know a guy who did this in his 86 Turbo Z. He said he couldn't keep a trans in the car. I assume he ran it hard and was using a stock 525 though since he said they were a dime a dozen. I would think the cam would be the hardest part to find, but Simon(turbovanman) has a source making them in a roller variety IIRC.

Im going with a fairly proven setup for my shelby charger. Stock 2.5, ported exhaust manifold, ported 2-piece intake, Super 60 .48 A/R turbo, full 2.5" exhaust and a FMIC... I have less than $900 in parts, but havent bought the gaskets, and piping to install it yet... Goal is 250whp. We'll see lol

why a 2.5 in such a light car and your limits will be the stock head and the .48 turbine housing but it still should make decent power

he still makes them but tons of people are making tons of power with a stock turbo cam.

Yeah I know. Heck you can make 250 hp with the stock turbo and a 2.5" SV.

20,000 mile 2.5 was 150 bucks. Love the torque btw. But I kinda wish it was a 2.2. The .48 should still do fine, the .63 is supposed to be better in the upper rpm's but this is a DD and 2.5's dont like to rev anyway lol. Stock head, well I dont have the funds for a ported one

What computer and injectors for that set up? Any trans mods to handle the torque (or is it an auto trans)?

87 T2 electronics with a custom 2.5 computer from Aries_Turbo,
20% injectors. Stock 525 trans, which seems too be doing just fine, but I wouldnt be surprised if it does indeed blow lol

If you have a GLHS, you already have a great building block- get a better exhaust, IC, MP stage II cal, +20 injectors, MBC, gauges, map cut out and go run some 12's, :thumb:

Of course you can put a larger SV on, .63 turbine housing and the list goes on. :o

Mike,

Buy a super 60 turbo, an 89 minivan harness and you're pretty much there. Thats what I did on the Whore.

So do you just need the mini van harness for under the hood and then you can convert to SMEC is that right? If so I may go that route myself.

my 86 s/c is all converted to smec , 88-89 caravan turbo engine harness , 88-89 omni EFI dash harness , but you need to change the tb for the sensors , im running now on a custom cal from rob , and pulling hard and im pretty sure im about 250 hp , stock turbo t2 , 2.5 sv , t1 bottom end , stock head , but 3 bar cal !
