Took the Turbo Z to the show today. what a great time. So many nice cars, especially in the 4 door L-body. The last SDAC convention I was able to attend was the last one here in town but, I would have to say there were more nicer cars this year than then. I had the 7100 mile Daytona that took second place in the class and I appreciate everyone comments, praise and votes. The Daytona class is always a tough one. I can not remember the name of the winner in the class but I will never forget the car. That was the best restored G-body that I have ever had the pleasure to see, beautiful paint and attention to detail just a great job all around. I was there when they gave the Best of Show award but I could not place the person with the car, which car was it? Some of my other favorites were the Rampage that won it's class, the Phantom R/T, the CSX-T and the white Lancer Shelby. Hats off to Barry and the whole staff it's always like a homecomming to attend a SDAC convention. More pics please.

A little history on this Phantom R/T DOHC. A Mexican owner (not sure that it was the original owner) was driving it in Texas when he blew the engine near Cindy's. The car ended up at Cindy's and was sold to a US owner (I don't know the name) then he sold it to Will Long (Detroit area). Will pulled the blown engine and replaced it was a known good 91 T-III engine and did a FULL repaint on the car. I have some more pics of it, that I will get uploaded soon. It has a factory alarm with a Chrome Key Lock on the Drivers Rear Fender, and the Coupe has re-enforcements on the frame similar to the additional re-enforments on a Lebaron Conv. and it has the 170 mph Speedometer. Will has been working on this car for 2 years, and this was it's debut. Thanks for bringing it out Will! Nice job on the restore! :nod:

BTW: He also won his class in car show! No surprise there. Congrats, Will! :thumb:

The van on the back of the tow truck is getting helped off the curb it drove over. I saw it before the tow got there. Don't know how he did it but there is about a four foot drop on thr other side of that curb.

Great pics! Thanks for taking a picture of my broken R/T, as it will remind me again why I shouldn't be driving the car around. Next time I'll bring my race car to SDAC, as it's the only car I have now that hasn't left me stranded!

Thanks! I'm glad that you guys like them! :) I'm hoping to get better control over the camera so that the pics get better. The one I was using (Nikon D2H) is new to me. I'll be honest, at the track I was having major issues getting the thing to focus on the car and not the background. Come to find out I apparently bumped the knob (one of probably 20 on the back of the thing) and moved the focus priority. :( However, I think I was able to get at least one decent shot of everyone's car.

DSC, you should have taken a follow up picture of my car after the wash to catch the glimmer of all the lime spots! Good grief that water was loaded with it. I'll be buffing my car for a week to get that stuff off. :)

So after I fixed it I could not get 2nd gear. It felt like the shifter was hitting the end of its travel before it hit 2nd.

I need to beef up the rear suspension. I launch at 5 grand with about 9 psi of boost and it spins the slicks all the way through 1st.

I have spacers I took out of my GLH that go under the rear springs to
stiffen them up.
I cut my front springs before SDAC so I could take out the spacers and lower the car all the way around.
Their 1" tall, if you want them their yours.
Not sure if you want to raise the back, but they worked great for me.
Only takes about 20 minutes to install them.

When I buit the car I zeroed the odometer and when I left for Cincinnati it was just over 3,000 km. (~1850 miles) I thought this was monumental as I passed 10,000 km on the way home. By the time I got home it was around 10,500 km. (~6525 miles) So that puts the total trip with driving around SDAC at about 7500 km (~4650 miles) :thumb:

About 3 hrs from home I spotted this hovering over the town of North Battleford Saskatchewan. It had to be atleast a mile across. I just hovered for about 5 minutes and never touched down. As cool as it would have been to see, it would have been devistating for those underneath it. None the less it was awe inspiring.

I think on the whole trip I only got 3 new chips so that wasn't too bad. I personally don't get the trailer queen mentality short of a fully built race car. A quick note on the mounts........I would say I tried making my own mounts. Not that they horribly failed but as a few from SDAC can attest, they turned out rock hard.......as in I could have just made solid steel mounts type hard. :o Oh sure, my engine doesn't move but at certain RPMs my antenna resonates with easily a 1/2" of amplitude never mind the noise I get in the cab. So after seeing Johnny's mounts and that they would probably dampen the vibrations much better and still hold the engine in place I picked up a set of his. I haven't got to install them yet but I have high hopes. :thumb:


Thanks for all the compliments and I had a great time which was well worth the drive. It should be noted that my car was one of many absolutely beautiful machines and I have never seen so many awsome TDs in one place at a time and probably never will again anywhere but SDAC.

It was there last year. I was told by one of the museum guys they actually pulled it out of storage just for us! They didn't have it all opened up though. :( It was still awsome to see just the same, and I'm kinda glad I got to see it closed up because the body lines are jsut so d@mn sexy!! :love::hail::amen:

It was there last year, but you really had to *crawl* around it and really *lean* over the ropes to get pics of the engine. Then you get yelled at by a 95 year old man with a oxygen tank on who you orginally thought was a dummy of some sort. We were like "HOLY CRAP....WHO JUST SAID THAT?"

A little history on this Phantom R/T DOHC. A Mexican owner (not sure that it was the original owner) was driving it in Texas when he blew the engine near Cindy's. The car ended up at Cindy's and was sold to a US owner (I don't know the name) then he sold it to Will Long (Detroit area). Will pulled the blown engine and replaced it was a known good 91 T-III engine and did a FULL repaint on the car. I have some more pics of it, that I will get uploaded soon. It has a factory alarm with a Chrome Key Lock on the Drivers Rear Fender, and the Coupe has re-enforcements on the frame similar to the additional re-enforments on a Lebaron Conv. and it has the 170 mph Speedometer. Will has been working on this car for 2 years, and this was it's debut. Thanks for bringing it out Will! Nice job on the restore! :nod:

BTW: He also won his class in car show! No surprise there. Congrats, Will! :thumb:

I talk with David this afternoon, and he told that is very probably that the Phantom R/T on the pictures was the one he use to belong. The story is the same ... he blew the engine and it was very expensive to bring it back to Mexico, so he left at Cindy's place for sale or something like that ... I can't remember the whole story !!

Ok, here's one simiar to your photo. Lower shutter; I *think* this was at 400.

I can answer this! The manifold was modified with an adapter plate welded on to it to accept different turbo's. The stock turbo on the 16V Masi is a very small IHI unit. The turbo that is being used there is a much larger Garrett I believe is what Mike is running... :nod:

ah thanks for clearing that up, so why not make it use a different filange, obviously he wasnt going to use the stock IHI unit, just seems kinda weird, that doesnt cause problems with it missing one like that.

I didn't have a job last year and was worried about the cost. Fortunately it was only about 5 or so hours away and I was able to split my room. The total bill for the time there was about $150. I was pleased.

Yeah, the car show days and weekend days I am busy kicking --- while drag racing at Indy for Sportsman points or at Edgewater running for pts in the United Manual Transmission series. But in the past I have been able to commute. The first SDAC I attended at Milan I commuted each day while the second race there (when Matchbox broke) I stayed at a cheap hotel since gas was so much. One of the older events at Edgewater I again stayed at a cheap hotel while the SDAC 19 event saw me drive the Matchbox there for hospitality event at the park and then came back with the SRT4 for the race.
