Was the gas cap a matte finish or was it painted gloss black like the rest of the car? Looking for the info to help out a board memeber with a low mileage 87. Thanks!

both of mine have been painted black.

I know the "new" ones you buy are black plastic, ie no paint, AND the really new ones have warnings printed on the outside.

I had an 87 Charger back in the 90s and It was unpainted. Like the mirrors.

your probably right. My cars all had previous owners and were all pretty old by the time I got them ;)

I would be correct for it to have a matte black or trim black color, however that doesn't mean it wouldn't look better painted gloss black. I just did a repaint on my 87 SC and painted the mirrors and gas cap gloss black with clear coat. Not correct, but looks better IMO. BTW, I've seen precious few 100% correct GLHS's out there. I think it is pretty well documented that well done mods do not decrease the value of these FWD Mopars. Virtually all the top dollar sales have been modified cars to some degree. Now "IF" this was a RWD Mopar muscle car, I would give you a very different answer.

I should know this answer, hell I prepped the cars when they were new.

Lots of miles under my belt since then...
