Hey everyone!
I'm preparing to have my van painted Plum crazy purple. I had a minor accident last year and messed up the driver's fender. I picked up a beautiful straight and un-rusted fender from the junkyard today. While Im at it, I think I want to fix my liftgate/hatchback. I believe it (my van) was hit before I owned it, and the back door/hatch rattles pretty badly while on a bumpy road. The junkyard van has a nice hatchback, but no keys! Can I remove the plastic panel from the inside without the hatch open to manually unlatch the door? How difficult it is to remove the wiring connection to the van without simply cutting it? Lastly, how the heck do you remove Caravan wipers?! I read somewhere you need a special tool, but certainly not everyone went to chrysler to buy this tool right?!
Thanks,
Lee

I'm pretty sure the plastic panel is screwed in on the underside, so imposible to get them out if closed. I could be wrong, check the van you have, I have a cargo, so no panel at all. The front wiper arms are very easy, once you remove the covers there are nuts to remove.

I had to do this several times in the JY. Remove all visible screws and possibly speaker covers. Pull the plastic as far as you can. Most of the panel is held in with the same wire clips as the other door panels. Reach in the middle and you will feel the rod move it and the gate will pop. When I installed a new gate on my van I cut the harness from the donor van as far into the headliner I could and I cut the harness on my van as close to the gate. I soldered the wires and never had a problem. I had to run more wires because mine never had a rear wiper or power latch that the new door had. You can try to get the wires out but I think it will be a pain to get them back in.. I thought the wiper was held on with a nut. but I could be wrong

Huh...now that you mention it, I remember moving the wiper on the front of my van, by lifting that cover. I don't think the rear wiper is the same, but again, I could be wrong. I definitely want to know how I can get my rear wiper off, one for painting, and two, so I can install a new rubber grommet. I did some reading and learned you can move the striker for adjustment. I brought the striker in, and the hatch has stopped rattling, or at least much better than it was. There is still a big gap, but I think considering the work I would have to do for the wires, it may not be worth the hassle since the annoying rattle seems to be gone.
Justin, I was thinking I would be able to remove that plastic panel and just manually move the latch. Good to know.
I'm having the turbo decals reproduced from a decal shop. I'm pretty excited about this :)
thanks for all the tips!

A good body shop should be able to adjust the door. If these guys can get aftermarket doors and such to fit getting yours to stop rattling should not be a problem.

Yeah good body shop...but this is Maaco! Who am I kidding?! Naa, I think I got the most of the rattle out, but there is still a nice gap where the door meets the frame. I suppose its just from a prior accident. I really want to get that wiper off though! I was able to pull a little metal key out, but that seems to have done nothing. Perhaps its rusted on.
