I just ordered one and got it today. The original one has a flare fitting on the pump end. The replacement has a banjo stlye fitting. Are the two interchangeable? I don't want to tear it apart until I know for sure. Thanks.

There are 2 different pumps used and '88 was kind of a transition year for some models. The older cars all used the steel housing teardrop shaped Saginaw pump, the newer cars used the plastic housing rectangular-ish shaped pump. They have different mounting systems and probably lines too. I have both at home but dont remmeber which is which off the top of my head tho... anyone got them handy?

Mine is the newer style with the plastic resevoir. The hose I got looks like the one my 86 Daytona Turbo Z had. It had the banjo style fitting on the pressure side and a steel, teardrop shaped resevoir. The parts catalog did not show any other hose by build date or anything.

They overlapped for a couple years I think. Every '88 car I've owned (all P & G bodies) has had the plastic tank pump tho. Does it list a different one for '89?

1989 had 2 different hoses. They both supercede to the one that I have. 1987 used a different hose. My car was built 3/24/88 so I doubt it has the 87 parts on it. The banjo bolt is flared on the inside. I am going to try it and see if it works. Who knows what parts may have been swapped on to the car before I got it.

The 89 C/S Daytona that I had also had the plastic resevoir{ZF} style pump on it.

my 88 Lancer Shelby has the plastic pump on it. I had to go to a few autostoneds to get the right line. The pump in my car has the flare fitting on it. I do know that for the 88 H bodys there was like 2 or 3 diffrent lines listed. Might want to try a diffrent parts store.

Good point on the different parts store idea. I'm sure that not all manufacturers make all the different types.

I work at a Dodge dealer. I ordered it right from Mopar myself. 1988 catalog only lists one.

Mopar likes to superceed stuff... is that the only one they offer now?

I called the specifying department. They think it may be a wrong part. It is too old of a car to mess with. They told me to contact the Chrysler Star Center. I ordered one from NAPA. It is supposed to be flared on both ends according to their catalog. I am going to pick it up at lunch time. I will post what I find out. The # I listed is also the one for 1989. I don't think it is right. If I open it and half install the Mopar one I can't send it back. I hope the NAPA one is right.

I think I got the right hose from NAPA today. Part # is 7-2238 and is $31.00. It is flares a little differently on the ends but I believe it will work. I might work on the Z tonight. I'll post again after I get it put on.

I had the ZF pump on my CSX-T, I know for sure it was a flare fitting like* the ham can pumps. I'd have remembered something like a banjo fitting on there.

*as in similar to, not quite identical

Got the hoses put on Saturday. No more leaks! The Napa hose fit great. I used a Mopar hose for the return because it was the only way to get the steel section too. I flushed the system too. Next time I attempt to do it I am going to get a stubby 18mm wrench! You do not have any room to swing a wrench in there. I may even get some metric crowsfeet to make the job easier.
