I had to replace my A/C evaporator during the winter of 2008, about the same time I installed rear air in my van. The inside of my evap/heater box was coated with 20 years of dust and dirt. Unacceptable! So I decided to make a cabin air filter. After a little over a year of use it's time to change the filter. So I decided to take pictures this time. The inlet for the evap/heater box is under the panel where the windshield wiper mechanism is. It's not real hard to get to the filter but not something I want to do more than once a year. I used a home A/C mesh type filter. This time I'm going to use a paper/foam type filter. The mesh worked good but was too porous in my opinion.
When I had the evap/heater box out I stuck two carriage bolts sticking away from the air box and used nuts to hold them in place. I used carriage bolts so they wouldn't spin in place. I made the frame out of aluminum stock I got from ACE. I can't weld aluminum so all eight pieces are bolted together. I tapped threads into the pieces that are flush against the firewall because I didn't want the nuts holding the frame away from the firewall letting air to pass through. I have a steal screen reenforcing the mesh filter. I have the frame recessed for the nuts holding the carriage bolts in place.

Blower resistor. I remove this for easy access to one of the mounting nuts.
