Seems like the '87 cars realy flew under the radar as you see deals on them every now and then. The '86es seem more coveted, raced, etc. I know most of the '86 cars were pre-sold but some of the '87es lingered on the lots for a while.

Both are cool though. Nice to have the set! :thumb: So what mods do you have on the '86? I just installed a 3" swingvalve and exhaust, +20 injectors and a manual boost controller set to 18ish psi. Car had a MP stage 2 Module in it already. These mods really transforn the car in to a complete beast!! :eyebrows:.

You've really got a nice collection with the 2 GLHSes and an SRT4. 3 best 4 cyl dodges ever IMO.

Thanks ! Your car sounds like fun ! The '86 has 2.5 exhaust , +20s , 52mm TB & an old Dick Winkles 14psi cal . I'll probably leave the S cars alone other than that , I have a few other cars that I'd be more apt to modify.

I know of two 86 GLHS's that were still on the lot in 1989. There were a few of them around, long after most had been sold. If memory serves me correct, Joe Lacocco(sp?) bought the last 87 GLHS off the lot. I know he had to travel to get it. I don't know what year that was, but I know it was a while after 1987.

Yeah, funny story about your car. I got in contact with the previous owner of your car when he had it listed for sale. He seemed like a nice guy on the phone. I said I was looking for a low mileage very nice condition 86 GLHS and I wanted to come check it out in a week or so, and I made an appointment with him on a Monday morning at 10am to look at it. In the meantime, I found another guy who had 2 low mileage 86 GLHS's for sale, also in the Detroit area. I told this guy I was going to be in the area on that Monday, and he said 8am would work best. So I called the first guy back(the previous owner of your car), and told him, "I should still be able to make our 10am time, but if I'm running a little late I'll give you a call." He said, "Oh ok, no problem. Did something come up?" I replied, "Well, I'm going to look at another car at 8am then I'll be over to look at yours around 10." He flipped out! He said, "DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS CAR IS? THERE'S ONLY 500 OF THESE MADE! I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU WERE LOOKING FOR A LOW MILEAGE GLHS, NOT JUST A CAR." I said, "Yeah, I am looking for a low mileage GLHS. I'm looking at two others at 8am and I'll be over to see yours at 10." "There's no way there's 3 low mileage GLHS's for sale in Detroit all at the same time..." he replied still pissed. I said "Yeah, I know it's hard to believe, but there are three 86 GLHS's all with under 40k miles, all for sale, within 15 miles of each other. Your car looks very nice in the picts and I look forward to checking it out in person." He goes, "Well, I don't have time for this. You just go look at those other two. If you don't buy one of those, then give me a call next week, and maybe we can talk." I told him I was coming from Minnesota and it's a 12 hours drive, I'm not coming back next week. I said I'd go check out those others at 8am and I'd meet him at 10am as planned, and he hung up.

So the following week Monday rolls around, I'm in Detroit, and I went and looked at the first car(he only had one of the 2 there). I was done there about 9:30 so I went to meet the owner of your car, and he never showed up, and wouldn't answer my phone calls. What a jacka$$.

I completely understand the odds of 3 low mileage 86 S cars all for sale in a 15 mile radius is very very very unlikely, but he was a dick on the phone after I told him I was going to look at another car. He totally didn't believe me, that there were other cars available. And instead of giving me a chance to explin, he just turned into a prick and blew me off. Not really the best attitude to have when you're trying to sell something.

Oh well. Glad the car is in good hands now!!

Yeah. Actually, there were 2 Classic Auto Showplace cars. The guy I bought my car from had 2 of them. The one I bought(#163), which is pretty much stock w/ 16k miles. The other one(#028) had a super60 package on it, 568 trans, 4 wheel disk brakes, and some racing seats. I never got to see that car in person, but I heard it's fairly nice. I think that one had like 34k miles on it. My car was at CAS for a while, but I bought it directly from the owner, not through CAS. When I had agreed to buy #163, the owner went and picked it up from CAS and put #028 there in it's place.

I talked to a guy who worked for Chrysler who saw my car at CAS. He went back to buy it a week or so later, and it was already gone, and the other one was there. He said the modified one is nice, but not as nice as mine.

Funny you mention that . I had wanted an '87 all along but had gotten sick of looking , then all of a sudden there were a bunch of low mileage '86 GLHS's floating around the Detroit area . I looked at yours & a few others before deciding on mine. All were nice cars , mine was just cheaper , came with a ton of parts & great paperwork , so I took it home .

Your story about the seller is interesting . I could see how he could rub someone the wrong way , but my dealings with him were fine .

Hope you're enjoying the GLHS , it looks great ! . I've put a couple thousand trouble free miles on mine & hope to do the same with the '87 this Summer !!

Wow. That is amazing that the motor city had 3 S cars in it at one time with all low mileage! Too bad one of the previous owners wasn't too impressed with that fact, but it does seem fitting to be in Detroit. The thing I'm curious about is yeah if they were going to be in Detroit isn't the same 15 mile area probably the nicest areas of Detroit? The riots pretty much left a lasting mark on that city.

Yeah, Wixom is not the city of Detroit. Its about 30 min at 80mph. Does not seem like you know enough about Detroit to be saying something (that I don't fully understand) about being fitting for detroit and 15 mile being nice (which is also not in detroit).

Never saw Wixom mentioned until just now. I do not know Detroit at all nor have I ever or might ever be there.. Who knows. All cities have their bad spots, but the inner city from what I have heard isn't the safest place to be. Anyhow the original poster got the gist of what I was saying. I just thought it was cool that cars of this significance that came from the original big 3 were in the Detroit area. I was also asking indirectly if the area in which all 3 were located were nice areas. The last thing I expect to see on a street down the way from a crack house is a GLHS. lol. Although goes like hell would be necessary if some thugs decided to chase you down;)

I tracked down the original owner of my '87 GLHS today . Real nice guy , fun to talk to . I'm looking forward to checking out his racing Photos next time I'm out that way .:thumb:

Interesting story , he was crew chief/owner of an NHRA record holding Fuel Altered (6.60 @ 219 in '73) , then campaigned a Top Fuel car .

In the 80's , he started racing SCCA Pro Rally in an N/A Charger , then a boosted Charger & Shadow .

He purchased my "S" new , for a fun weekend car for his wife ( his toy was a Ferrari Daytona) . They put 22k on it during the next 17 years before selling it to the guy I bought it from . He had nothing but good things to say about the "S" !

He still owns a Chevrolet pickup that he campaigns in ARCA !

Bummer , finding a previous owner has become much more difficult these days , but I've always enjoyed the search . The stories are usually worth the trouble & the occasional bonus of paperwork , pics or spare parts make it worthwhile !

The engine bays both need detailing ( cars were both undercoated ) & the '86 is slightly modified , they're not really too photogenic .
