Its that time again, and once again, fellow SDAC enthusiast Mike Stimac is campaigning his '88 Daytona CS, with Steve Calder as co-driver.

Mike's Website:

This year, they have picked up the sponsor rockauto.com:
http://www.rockauto.com/Newsletter/index.html

OLOA Event info main page:
www.onelapofamerica.com

2006 schedule:
http://www.onelapofamerica.com/history/schedule.shtml?y=2006

Look and see what events are near you and try to make it out to support the crew!

Additional Mopar drivers in the event include:

Rick & John Schopp & Chad Milliman - Carpentersville, IL - '98 Dodge Neon

Steve Loudin (Grayslake IL) & Aaron Vanassche (Schaumburg IL) - 2006 Dodge
Magnum SRT8

Dale Seeley (Marietta GA) Jamin Cummings (Bethlehem PA) Nancy Becker (Victor NY) - 2004 Dodge SRT-4

and of course the Chrysler SRT team of Dave Zelkowski and Erich Heuschele
driving a Jeep SRT-8...

Lets get out and support them!

Yeah, Mike has a few power 'improvements' this year:thumb: GT-30R, better boost control, and of course the baffled oil pan that he really needed last year:o

Let's see how well a properly set up Masi 16V motor can motivate his Daytona:eyebrows:

Are Mike and Steve here? I'm at the hotel and was at Tire Rack earlier, but I haven't seen them yet. I did talk to Dave Z. and Erich briefly a while ago.

I'm with Dale Seeley's media team this year. http://www.lake-effect-racing.com/ We just posted the first pictures from this morning, and there are lots more coming. Let us know if there is something in particular you'd like to see pics or video of during the event, and we'll try to accomodate you. We already have lined up to get in-car video from the SRT8 Jeep.

I'm sportin' my turbo-mopar.com t-shirt today! :D

I should have marked my calendar in advance.
I just called Dale on his cell to check if there were any open slots for the road course in Topeka. (He said there were only a couple left, and I registered online while we were still on the phone)
He apologized in advance in case he offended me in his current well-lubricated condition (after hangin out with ovc guys its really tough to get offended by anything).
He mentioned a couple of vehicles that he thought would be pretty tough including an Evo.
He even took the time to direct me to lake-effect.

Good luck guys.

Three vids of the skidpad action are on the LER website (and a lot of pics). The Jeep SRT/8 sounds baaadddd. Calder's winning effort is there too. He got a .910 G for the two way average around the wet loop in Mike's 88 Daytona CS.

After yesterdays stint they are 2nd in class, and 12th overall.

If I remember correctly, Ken, the Hooters Omni was entered in the Economy Car Class. I think that's the problem with the OLOA, the rules often don't make sense and are even sometimes changed on the spot when things come up solely at the decision of Brock Yates, Sr. I know the guys that raced "The Green Brick", the '69 Plymouth Valiant from Mopar Action magazine have complained about it in print a bunch. I think they just don't like it when a former New Jersey Bell foreman's car goes out and whips some of the world's more exotic performance cars. They don't think that reading about a half '85 and half '86 Dodge Omni or an original 198ci Slant Six Plymouth Valiant passing a Z06 on a road coarse is great material for their magazine!

BadAssPerformance

Mike Stimac won the Econo class in 2000 (I think)...

BadAssPerformance
05-11-2006, 01:20 PM
I think they could have raced in Econo if they wanted to by the rules:

Class Structure

1. Sports/GT cars over $40,000 – Engine displacement 3.5L and over
2. Sports/GT cars over $40,000 – Engine displacement under 3.5L
3. Sports/GT cars under $40,000 – Engine displacement 3.5L and over
4. Sports/GT cars under $40,000 – Engine displacement under 3.5L
5. Mid-priced sedans and wagons $20,000-$40,000
6. Economy cars under $20,000
7. Luxury sedans and wagons over $40,000
8. Sport Utility vehicles and pickups all price ranges
9. Classic American: All domestically produced vehicles built prior to
1985, including street rods, specials, etc.
10. Classic Imported: All types built prior to 1985
11. Alternate Fuel class-including hybrids, electric, diesels, etc.
12. Retro: Vehicles intended to reflect past trends or models, Minis, etc.

Note: Classification based on categories in the Car and Driver New Car Buyer’s Guide. The editors will be the final authority in any disputes.

sdac guy
05-11-2006, 01:54 PM
Mike told me last year that he wanted to be in Econo again, but Brock wouldn't allow it. The mods done to the car carry some weight in classification. I think Brock wants the cars in a class to be competitive. Mike's car as it sits could possibly dominate Econo, but look how close it is to the RX7.

I got off the phone with Mike a little bit ago. Mike was given the checkered flag at the end of his second lap yesterday but it was for the car that was coming up behind him. He cruised for about half a lap before he jumped on it again, hence the poor time.

The RX7 spun off the course and crashed this morning and ended up with a DNF for the first session at RA. Mike said the car was drivable but had suffered some bodywork damage.

Mike is not out of it yet based on the scoring system and what damage the RX7 incurred.

They are leading, with the only event remaining being the skid pad tomorrow. From the weather report, it looks like it will be another wet skid pad, and we already know how fast Steve is there!

Thanks for the kind words. We aim to please! The site has been getting a lot of hits, about 300K a day the last couple of days. I have a service monitoring it, and it hasn't been down, though.

It's been quite an adventure, basically running One Lap without the actual racing. Our media team got a big mention on the Microsoft Xbox Project Gotham Web site today. That was cool. We did some interviews with their team, driving a red Noble M400.

Tire Rack GA was Tire Rack in Georgia. It was between Roebling Road and Florence Speedway on Tuesday. As an event, it is listed last, not in the order it happened (don't know why Brock did it like that).

I have quite a bit of One Lap video of the Daytona that didn't go on the Lake Effect site. I'm dumping it onto a CD for Mike. I'll see if I can squeeze some of it down to a reasonable size and post it here, too.

Got a nice little souvenir from the guys Friday night when we got back to the bar...uh...hotel...

I want to send out a big 'THANKS!' to all of the turbo Mopar community for your support during the 2006 OLA. At almost every venue we were met by some fellow turbo Dodge enthusiasts. Thanks Craig, JT, Barry, Bill, and everyone else who stopped by and lent a hand.

I also wanted to mention that Cindy from FWD Performance was instrumental in our class win. Not only did she provide us with a 2 stage boost controller to help with the standing starts, but also went well out of her way to get us a spare clutch after we had problems at Mid America. During the second session at Mid America the clutch refused to hold much more than 10 psi boost. She arranged to have a spare clutch driven from her shop in Texas to No Problem raceway in Louisiana (5 hours away).

Thanks also to Turbo-Mopar for help with the gas money, and to our main sponsor Rock Auto for providing the registration fee. Check them out at rockauto.com.

Congrats Steve :thumb:

I looked forward to checking out the stats each day of the event. Wish I was closer to some of the venues so I could have gone and showed some support.

Once again good job :)

To Mike and Steve
After seeing the autographed picture I got an idea for some fund raising for your next venture. I would like to buy an autographed 4 x 6 for $10.00....or whatever you want to charge. If all 1000 of the Turbo-Mopar members got on board it wouldn't take long to fill up the gas tank a few times.

As I said in a previous post, you guys make me proud to be a part of the Turbo Mopar community. It's good to see one of "our" cars do so well. Respect is something that is earned and you guys nailed it! Congtatuations

Yep, it seemed like it rained all week. I was glad I took my rain suit. Sometimes the video camera had to be wrapped up in a Wal-Mart bag.

Drags were rained out last year as well, right?

What has the car run in the 1/4 so far?

I don't think it has been to the drag strip since the Mas motor was installed last year.

I watched one video where the daytona made laps around a circle track. Mike or Steve, what MPH were you running down the straights and through the corners? Looks pretty darn good like a purpose built circle track car running laps.

The car doesn't have a speedo, but it was the top of 3rd gear; maybe 90 mph. It would have been close to a top 10 finish if I hadn't botched the start.

Here's a pic of the car at Mid America Motorplex, near Omaha. And a link to the larger pic.
