Is there a problem if you have a turbo dodge that shows code 12 but it NEVER goes away? I'm starting to think I might have a voltage supply problem to the SBEC on my Spirit R/T. It won't clear code 12 no matter how long I drive it....even after months of start and stop pizza delivery without touching the battery.

I checked the SBEC battery supply voltage at pin #3; everything is OK there. I wonder if this is related to the underdrive pulley and voltage dipping at idle with lots of accessories on?

i get that a lot with my under dive pulley when i turn the vol. up on my system

I have an UD pulley and 2 CV 12's... and dont get code 12 but my '87 is a LM/PM car...

Maybe you have a short? Try cleaning the battery cable connection to the battery, make sure the alternator wiring is good...

I checked and compared the voltage at the battery versus the voltage at the alternator terminals. I get about 14.1v at the battery with the car running. It's about 14.4v at the alternator. I measured voltage between the + terminal and the alternator's + terminal and there is about .25v difference. Is this enough to cause problems? Looks like I might need to make some new battery cables and order a set of ground wires. I also checked all of the SBEC's grounds (power ground, signal ground, sensor ground) and didn't find any continuity problems.

That little difference in voltage shouldn't be an issue.

i always thought code 12 and 55 were normal codes, code 12 refers to the battery having been disconnected at some point. at least thats what i could gather from my haynes manual. whenever i have checked codes in any of my TDs they always have started with 12 and ended with 55.

Your right, I don't think it goes away. The Sebring I just worked on had a code 12 using the key method.

I thought code 12 went away after so many cranks of the motor (50)? Or is that another code I'm thinking of...

i don't think any of my TDs ever went 50 cranks without being torn into and having the battery removed:thumb:

Yes, code 12 should disappear after 50 or so starts. But it never goes away on my car. I think I've found the problem though. Ever since installing an amp/sub in the trunk, I get A LOT of white powdery corrosion on my positive and negative battery terminals. I clean it off once in a while but I think the corrosion has crept into the wiring itself and is causing a lot of issues.

My other cars don't do this and it didn't seem to start doing that on my Spirit R/T until I put the amp in. It's a relatively small Pioneer amp, 150 watts RMS. Just enough for a single 12" sub. I used 4ga power ground wiring with good terminals from a Monster amp wiring kit. What the hell??!

Guess I have never had it running long enough to see it go away...LOL!

Have you tried using a scanner to erase it ?

yep, my OTC 4000E won't clear it either.

my 91 daytona has the 12 code to

never ever went away

i think something went wrong along the line and they made code 12 the beginning code because ive never ever gotten code 11
