this is the new motor that was put together and finally started up. Runs fine and all BUT egt is reading 1200 at idle with the wide band hovering around 13is h i REALLY THINK THE PROBE IS SHOT. whats a avarage egt reading at idle ????

timing is set stage 4 cam is set straight up (till after break in) fuel at idle is 30-35psi

I don't trust the EGT much anymore. Mine reads about the same maybe 1150 if I let it idle for a while and I want to say close to 1700 WOT with stock 2.5 pistons. Your timing comes in to play and also where you stuck the probe.

It could be your cam or that you are a bit lean, it should be lower, around 800 or so but 1200 won't kill it or do any damage.

I would degree the cam to make sure that it is indeed "straight up". My 2.4 idles at 1000 (but in all fairness it has yet to see abuse...old 2.2 was about the same with probe in the collector), but the reading could be off on yours.

yea i always thought it was reading high with the old motor with the probe in #4 i now moved it to #3 for ease of access to the probe. It is indeed straight up UNTIL the motor is broken in and then ill start boosting her. with the old motor i would be running rich with 1700-1750 readings and even once i got wideband into the 12.0 it still was 1700

anyway ordering a new probe for 40.00 today

Did you use a mic? If not, you don't if it is straight up or not. Who says the keyway is in the same orientation as the stock cam? Who says your gear isn't off? I bet you cam timing is retarded...get a cam degree kit and check for real, or else go ahead and advance the cam two degrees.
