I am considering having a batch of these made for us. Just wanted to create a poll here to see if the demand was there. Since shipping these units can be costly and risky I decided we would try to have them available for pick up at SDAC in Cincinatti or @Carlisle. Take the poll and let me know if you would be interested in joining. Other Fiberglass body parts are available also. Let me know what you are looking for and I will see if we can have them made too.

Thanks!

Hairy Glass out of Florida already makes the hatch, bumpers, doors, hoods for the Charger body style. Reasonable prices, too.
Now, if you produce a nice, high quality 4dr Omni hatch(with a plexi window!), I'd be in for one.

Hey Chris,
Too bad you are so far away, my mom's boyfriend owns a fiberglass shop and makes all kinds of different fiberglass stuff. If you were closer I could talk to him about making these.

I actually contacted them about a hatch for my Charger. Their pieces are designed to be lift-off pieces (Like say, a '69.5 Road Runner hood), and do not accept the factory backlight- You have to make your own window from lexan or plexiglass. Perfectly fine for a dedicated race car, but not something I would want for a regularly driven street car like my Charger.

Chris: is the hatch piece a factory bolt on(uses hinges) or a lift off like Adam was talking about???

On the hairy glass guy: Has anyone used any of his products, like the hood or hatches? are the both lift off or bolt on??? How well does it fit? Do they save alot, i would think so on the hatch, but the hood is kinda heavy, and i would think it would take alot of bracing to get the hood to not crack, making it heavy with glass too

Why dont you just ask anyway? Nothing like a little redundancy for parts.

How about NHRA legal Lexan windows? The rear hatch weighs about 3 lbs with the glass removed, same as the doors. A bolt in lexan door or hatch glass replacement would really decrease the weight.

You would really be surprised what a stock Shelby Charger hatch weighs without the factory glass.

The key would be to have both.....fiberglass hatch and lexan glass. Geesh, that probably shave two tenths right there!

What about p-bodies, any way possible to get them as well?

Sorry for the delayed response. We just returned from the CA SDAC meeting and haven't had an opportunity to respond to this thread yet.

Yes, these would be Hairy Glass pieces. We are trying to determine if there is enough demand to organize a group buy. The advantage would not be a discount on the product, but, a discount and safer method of shipping. Keep the responses coming. We should have a decision by sometime this week.

Thanks!

Hi Mike,

I was working on that with him. I will let you know his response. :thumb:

You might look into scoops, flares, wings, fenders, hoods, door skins (yes you can use the steel door frame with a fiberglass skin) or even complete doors (I bet they weigh more than a hatch). Light weight but stronger K members (steel, not fiberglass), and like was already mentioned, lexan glass replacements. A line of lightweight parts for L (2&4 door), P, and G bodies at first, then expand to what ever the market demands. Hairy Randy (or whatever his name is) can produce what you want. Find out what a minimum run would be to make it cost effective and go from there. Nobody is buyng fiberglass now because it really isn't available. Nobody was buying intercoolers in 1986 either. (?) The demand will come when the supply is there at a reasonable cost. Go for it.
