I do road racing and with a 400+ hp engine, the stock the cooling system cannot keep up. From the jegs catalog I saw some measurements that looked like the stock radiator. Look at the pictures and compare the thickness of the two. The new one is a double core and one core of this rad is about time and quarter wider than the stocker. It supports 400hp according to the salesman. So I should be OK for my track day next month.http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/491000-491999/491208_123_full.jpg

What is the part#

How does it connect to the waterpump, and how much did it cost??? Really nice!

The other reservoir bottle is for the water injection, I have 2 of the same to make sure I don't run out of meth/water. The water pump connection was the most tricky one. I had to cut half of the outlet and put a 90 degree elbow hose. Went to Autozone and bought a short flex hose and loop the water pump and the rad outlet togheter. I cost me around $215 with shipping and the part# I'll get it for you later.

would overcooling be an issue on a 350hp street car with that rad?

I would have thought that overcooling would be the last of your worries.

Thats what a thermostat is for, :thumb:

Nice job man, very nice. That would look good in my Minivan, and the price is nice. I was quoted $400 to make me a custom one, which is good, they built one for my big B250 and it runs cool, even on a hot day, but cheap is good, especially these days.

That looks like a great score. Seems to be a very seasonable price for a rad like that.

Nice,

Is it:

555-51173 Universal Aluminum Radiator

Chevy/GM Style
27-1/2" x 16-1/2" overall
21-1/2" x 15" core

$199.99

I looked at Jegs and Summit but they have limited selection for radiators under 17" high and none of those other than the drag racing radiators (not much cooling) were narrow enough for my lbody. :(

It looks like it works well for other styles though.

How tight is the return line to the water pump? I bet that is a short hose with a bit of a bend in it. :)

Yeap, that is the number. Just bought a flex hose and looped it around addind a 90 hose elbow on rad and a 45 elbow on the pump with no kink on hose.

your "stock" radiator is also for a base model 2.5 non-ac car. shoulda tried a V6 or 2.5 turbo radiator with a/c. Double the core that your stocker had.

LOL. I got one of their radiators just a couple of weeks ago and finished installing it last night. Mine is number 555-51186, that one took a bit more customizing. The difference in cooling is well worth it over the stocker. Your install looks very good.

An oil cooler is another way to add some cooling capacity, but I'm guessing that you already have one. ;)

:amen: I plan on installing that same one this summer.

Rattlesnake, is that the stock fan on there? How heavy is the new radiator compared to the factory one?

Due to cooling issues, looking at getting rid of the Rad/Int combo on my GLH.

Going back to stock with a FMIC.

How has the Radiator been working?

Thank you for the info

I've got a better one that has close to the factory inlets/outlets(Ford style) and fits very nice(27.5"widex15.5"highx3"thick) and is cheaper. I'll get some pics of how it fits tomarrow.
Its a Griffin from Summit, look here

Speed, your radiator is exactly the design that Jegs carries for just $169. Theirs is made by Northern Radiators though.

are you talking about this one?

because that one is too tall

Nope, obviously they have either removed it or did a site update and forgot to put it back on. The part number was 555-51184. Sorry for being incorrect. LOL.

Too small, there designed for a 1.6L engine. I was looking at that for my van but my stock rad is bigger and has trouble staying cool, :(

yea thats the problem i thought of, i'm trying to find something t2 size, well t2 replacement more or less. Maybe just get one built.

If you're looking for TII size, what about a van radiator? If you don't mind doing a little fab work to install it, that should be the ticket. I'm really wanting to run a side mount intercooler on the Sundance so I can keep the ac and keep the intercooler plumbing simple. I think somebody posted somewhere on here that you can pick up a van radiator for about $80 at autozone. The measurements between it and the TII rad are supposed to be pretty close. When I get the spare cash to play with, I'll pick one up and try it. If it works well, I'll post pics/details.

I am having trouble keeping my van cool right now. When the outside temp is low, around 20-24 deg c, with the a/c on, its ok. Today, it was 29 and with the a/c on, the rad couldn't keep up and it ran very hot, even on the freeway. In the winter, going to get a larger rad.

Simon you need an airdam. Find one off an 80's S10 chevy pickup. They work and look great. I bet adding one will keep the van cool even at full boost and those 29 degree days. What's that in farenhiet??? Been 104 down here and my tona with a 195 T-stat runs barely above the 2nd dash above C. The scanner says 180 the whole time once it warms up.

I have one but can't use it when drag racing, its aprox 1 inch off the ground and rubs when using my slicks. Haven't tried it with my new setup. The S10 air dams don't fit well but for $30 brand new, I am not complaining.
