I've always just used what autozone stocked, which is Melling and never had any problems. But i've been thinking about trying a Mopar one this time. what do you guys prefer?

thanks

If you're speaking about the MP high volume pump, it isn't required and actually robs HP.

I use a stock pump.

I'm talking about a stock mopar pump and stock melling.

They're both good oil pumps. (Melling or SP)

I prefer and reuse the stock pumps, I feel and have found they provide better oil pressure if in good shape. For added insurance, I put the MP spring kit in, :thumb:

Yes, aluminum body. You take it apart, inspect for wear, if ok, put back together with MP #P3690944.

What about using that spring kit in a non mopar pump. Any benifits?

I wouldn't risk it, no idea what oil pressure you'll have.

but in this thread http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1685&highlight=P3690944 you suggested to use the spring in either the melling or sp pump.

I did but you asked if you could use that spring in another engine type oil pump, or that's what I implied you were asking. If you want to use that spring in an OEM replacement for OUR engines, then yeah, its fine to use.

i didnt say any spring, i said "that spring", the one you were talking about, in an SP or melling. but i think you thought that i meant any oil pump other then ours. so you've use that spring kit in either of those pumps?

Yes, I've used it in Melling pumps. Right now, using a good stocker in the van with that spring, 75 psi at 2500 rpm, :amen:

Cool. I got an SP in my motor right now and I wouldn't mind having a little bit more oil pressure. I assume it's pretty easy to install, would I need any special tools?

Thanks

You remove the cotter pin, then drill a hole on the cap, put a sheet metal screw in and use pliers to remove it-NOTE which way the cap goes, I didn't one time and put it in backwards, :banghead: Then remove spring, valve, clean up shavings, lube up valve, install new spring, cap and copper pin, :thumb:
