1985 Dodge 600, A-413. Needs at least rings, possibly pistons....(I'm sure you know all of this by now :o )

I've read up on the "break in" procedures to do after the rings are intalled. However, I'm also converting to T2 as the same time. So, after I get everything put back together and start the 600 up, "IF" something is messed up (not idling right, stalls, etc...) what effect will this have on the break in procedure, if any?

Thanks!

None as long as you are right there to shut her down quick.

Typically when I fire a new engine, the crank pully and accessory belts are not even on ( no water even in the radiator) . Just firing to see if I can get the right idle. After she fires, I install the other belts and actually cool the engine with the water pump.

So, run it w/o the acc. belts for like no more than a minute? I think that is what the Saturn guys say is ok on that engine. Just enough to see what's up.

be sure to prime the oil pump...crank it with the HEP off till it builds pressure

With my 600 not having ANY gauges, about how long should I crank it to prime it up?
Also, in doing this, with the acc. belt off, is there any drawbacks to the engine and the break in method in doing the cranking to prime the pump?

BTW: When I have some extra $$ I am getting gauges: Tach, Speedo (mines off - why? IDK), oil pressure, temp, voltage. I hate idiot lights..

the oil pump runs off the timing belt so your good
think it took about a min for me.....4 cycles of 10-15 secs

when I prime in I leave the plugs out so its easier on the starter.
