#1 What size tire should I look at for my 85 glh with 6.5 crab rims?

#2 I am going to put the pizza rims on my 89 caravan, what size for that?

#1 205/50

actual size varies from brand to brand but each manufactuar usualy has the actual dimensions. 215's are a bit big (and way more) and 225's are over kill. Good for DOT's but roll too much in turns.

I like good cheap tires so the YZ fusions is what I went with. Never have heard a squeal and they've lasted 3 years.

Depends on how hard you push your car, how much power it's laying down, and what you plan on doing with it.

I don't think those exist. :D

We'll see after I replace them. $ 240 for all for Z rated tires that are billy bad arse 3 years ago.

Agreed on the Omni, 205/50, my customers car has them, perfect fit.

For the van, 215/65 or 215/60 depending on how much wheel clearance you want-ie fender gap.

I don't see the point in going cheap on tires unless you sleep through corners or your car is stock or close to it. There are definately good priced tires out there that perform decently. I'm glad you like the Fuzions.

A couple weeks ago I bought a set of 195/50-15 form here
http://www.tires-easy.com/start.html

$205 shipped for Kuhmo's
When I got the tires I looked over them closer, Made in China.
Their good enough for burnin them off on the Omni.

i recommend the 215/60 on the 15x6s for the van. Im running em on mine. I think 65 is too tall unless you like the stock 4x4 look.

This post may need a poll. 225 are too big even for the 16's. Not too big to fit.

I run 225's for my DOT slicks and that's it.

if you care about handling (and have some perspective on handling other than stock k-cars) then 225 is too wide for a 6.5.

205 is perfect on a 6.5.

215/50 would be stretching it (if you could even get a tire in that size).

imo for cars that arent lowered much, 205/55r15 is the best for 15x6 or 6.5. if its lowered, or an omni, 205/50. if its a van or large car, 215/60.

225/50 15's on crab rims wouldn't even bolt up without hitting the shock in back on my stock GLH.

+1

I would say a 215 or a 225 on a 6.5" wide wheel. I run a 225/45 on the GTC and it fits perfect. A 205 is going to be too narrow. That's more ideal for a 6" wide wheel.

your lebaron wheels are probably 7 inches wide, though. 225 will fit on a 6.5 but it will move around a lot. You may not notice it if you dont do fast transitions or dont know what handling feels like outside of a k-car.. but its not ideal.

205/50r15 is the perfect fit for 6.5 but you have to be running an omni or it wont look right unless your (bigger) car is really slammed.

i never thought my aries looked bad with 205/50r15 and its a much bigger car (and also totally slammed).

16" crabs???

16" crabs???

16" tall with 6.5 width. Not crabs. The "other" 6.5" wide rims.... Or are the GTC lace wheels 6.5 wide too? Either way, 225 are way wide. They fit, don't rub, and roll when you turn.

225 wide fit fine... heck the 205's rub the trans. Tire roll means you dont have enough pressue, not width related. You'd be amazed how much that extra 20mm of tread width does in cornering.

The door decal on my S.C. calls for 205/50R/15, that's with a 6" pizza wheel.
I'd go wider with a 6.5" crab...

+++205/50/15 would be ideal on the 6.5" crabs. This is a no brainer. 215/50/15 is a rather odd size. Bolting on 225/50/15's on a GLHT that has been lowered or has weak or sagging springs and you would hit eventually, especially in the back. Unless the rear lip has been modified, the rear wheelwell lip will tear up the tread or sidewall like a can of sardines during hard cornering, huge speed bumps or potholes. The front will be a tight fit between hitting the front air dam and the plastic wheel well in the extreme rear. Not talking about the obvious tranny cover hitting. Then there is the issue of bolting too big of tire for a given sized wheel. Ideally, the 225's should have used a 8" wide rim, so the tire stands up straight.
I had 225/50/15's mounted on forged 8" wheels on my GLHS for a while. I had to adjust my crossmember to get the cars tires centered so they wouldn't rub! Not worth the effort IMO.

Sounds way familiar.... Like that's exactly what I was trying to say in my head but couldn't :banghead:

4L's help me out here. Rebuttle the tire pressure thing with the 225's side wall support thingy....:D

Sure, ideally thewider tire needs a wider rim, but... I have seen stock GLH's with 225's on Pizza wheels or Crab wheels w/o issues.

Rolling sidewalls on 50 series? either insufficient tire pressure, or crappy tires :D

i run 225's on my 6.5" crabs on my k car. 225/50/15 kumho ecsta 711's. they dont have much flex at all and the wider tire allows me to actually hook a little on the street. not alot but a little lol.

everyone keeps talking handling which is nice, but few bring up the much more important point...... Putting the power to the ground!

Balloons are good for traction.

a buddy of mine used to run 205-45 or 50-16's on the rear of his srt-4 neon on rota wheels and 225-60-16's on the front to help with traction. stage 3 car that could hook on the street in 2nd in low octane mode and 3rd with high octane mode.
