Is there any reason not to run the distributor in the stock location other than having to run the wires up through the intake?

It drives the oil pump too?

It's tight but works just fine.

If your using the thick factory intake runners just grind
and polish anywhere the wires will rub before permanantly
mounting the intake. The flange between 2 and 3 can
also stand a little reliefing but it more than doable.

If you clock your distributor one tooth off normaly center
it puts the wires evenly away from the intake flange.
Adding wire-loom to the first few inch's is cheap insurance
you wont rub too much. Dont overtighten your distributor,
just enough so you can still tap the base to set timing.

Im at a loss for the Toyota V-6 application that has super
long deep reach plug wires, just swap your distributor
ends on the wires. You can run all 4 thru between #2
and #3 runners, little paint marks to ID when there
pulled off now and again as there are hard to ID later.

Acess to the distributor. A simple cap/rotor/hep change become a nightmare. Imagine stuck in the middle of nowhere and you have to pull the intake off to replace a faulty HEP, :banghead:

If its a drag only car, no bigge, but DD, ack.

Many people have done it with success. I think it works better with a 90 degree terminal off from the distributor though and the wires have to be custom.

I have a cap conversion to HEI terminals and custom wires with the 90 degree terminals on them in stock for doing this if you need them.

As for rubbing I would just put a piece of corrugated or spiral wire loom covering over the wires where they pass through the intake.

I have the stock stratus intake with the distributor in the stock location. It does suck when you have to work on it,but it is do-able with out removing the intake.A year ago now the intermediate shaft's gear and oil pump drive gears sheared, and I removed the distributor to replace the parts.I had to remove the cap, rotor, hep etc seperately before I could weave it out from behind the intake...

run megasquirt and a coile on plug setup or the 2.0/2.4 16v coil pack.

Or simply replace the philips head screws with socket head or thumb screws on the cap, if it was easy every Honda owner would drive a TD :)
