I was on a mission from the Mopar gods today...

I had to swing by one yard to get the a crossmember from a A523 94' Voyager, then to another to visit a certian IROC Daytona.

I think I did pretty good:

This is what I was really after:

A 97K A543 from a 1991 Daytona IROC. Shifts great, I though the cross over lever was jammed but turned out to be a stuck shift cable. I was greeted upon removing the transmission with a newer clutch and a nice flywheel. Since I already have a new clutch kit waiting for me, I took the flywheel.

I also took the axles since they were the OEM ones and in very good shape.

Here's a few pics of the IROC that donated it's transmission:

And the sad part:

Oh well...at least it's parts will live on in my 94' Caravan:

Sounds like you had a fun time and scored some good parts. Great pics too!

nice job! that's a familiar sight, a 3.0 tilting with no tranny :D Grab that engine controller too. No EGR, cruise and A/C that one is ideal.

I got the PCM from that IROC, along with one from a 94' Shadow ES V6 5-spd. I figured I'd use the one from the Shadow as my van is the same year.

I got the tranny out of that Daytona in about an hour with just hand tools, I love working on these cars...soo much more room than my Neon. I was lucky the weather was able to cooperate-it's been pouring rain the past four days.

Here are the rest of the pics:

I usually take more but my batteries were almost dead. That blue New Yorker really made me mad....I almost bought that same car back in 2005. I'm soo upset to see it there...such a nice car...with a sunroof to boot!

Should grab the rear brakes off the Iroc, vented 11's and put them on your van, :thumb:

Dang you got all the nice cars sitting down there. Shame to see the shadow vert in there. It looks like the body wasn't too bad. I bet that IROC was a sweet ride at one time.

Some good finds in the PAP for sure! I've asked them if I were to have PAP tattooed on the back of my hand if they would let me in for free. They said yes. Always an option I guess.

I wonder if that was really an IROC or someone having fun with stickers.

If it bolts on....which it probably does..that's very tempting seeing how I plan on using this van to tow stuff in the future.

Hehehe..I also brought up the idea of letting me drive my van in there, load it up and charge me by the weight :D .

It's a real IROC, as it had the full leather interior, big brakes, all the fancy trim and the V6.

As for 1991 IROC's, I can break that Daytona down to 1 of 135 that came with the 3.0 and manual trans. The chart I have doesn't show that year's production by body color...

I've been so busy with work and stuff, I havent had a chance to clean up the stuff. I did buy some heavy duty degreaser to clean all that crap off of the transmission. I'm also going to get new axle and input shaft seals too. I may as well remove the side cover and get the rest of the old oil out.

I assume this is just a standard A543, not anything special because it's from an IROC, right? If not I guess I'll have the only IROC Caravan!

IROC...International Race Of Caravans? Ha ha...Imagine the large red "IROC" decal on the side of your van like the one on this IROC (it for sale in Ontario by the way)

btw thats a very good time getting it out!!! the v6 trans is a pain in the ars to get back in I tell ya.

case is a little larger then a 4 banger one so it makes it that much more awkward to move around. The worst part is getting the diff housing around the K frame/bracket for bobble strut! get the van as high as you can for install, that way u can get the motor on a greater angle to help ease things in....altho your working in a minivan, not a P body like I had....

theres a 3.0L iroc 5spd in the J yard now near my place, its a gen III tho...even worse :(

I wrestled with the 543 putting it back into my friend's 92 IROC for like an hour before the input shaft slid in. Pulling them is the easy part, I dropped one from a Shadow ES in less than an hour.

I plan on removing the crossmember/K-frame as I have one from a manual van to put in. I figured that would ease the removal and installation of the transaxle.

It's really easy when the K frame is out of the way.

Niiice, Matt!

FWIW, you didn't need the subframe for the Caravan, polybushings sells a bracket that you weld to your existing K-frame that works just as well. It's like 15 bucks.

Matt86

I have no access to a welder, plus the subframe was only $15.00..and it came with newer control arm bushings and ball joints.

I have to stop going to junkyards...they are too addictive! I got this yesterday for the Neon:

A bulge hood in great shape! $30.00...I couldn't pass it up!
