Converting the GLHT to TII w/ 2 piece intake.

I know I need to either put a GLHS/TII style throttle cable on the car OR I need to modify the factory throttle cable.

Has anyone modified the factory cable? If so, what did you do?

thanks,

Clay, there should be a metal sleeve at the end near where the cable connects to the throttle body. Cut as much of that sleeve off as you possibly can. I trimed a cotter pin (like you find on the front axles/hubs) so that it would fit in the hole of the plastic throttle bracket on the throttle body. Wrap the cable around that plastic throttle bracket and the cotter pin will hold it in place by keeping the ball on the end from slipping out. It's a tight fit and it might be hard to push the cotter pin in the hole and over the cable.

It's really hard to describe.

I used a cable from a daytona if that helps, any of the late model TI cables should work.

It wasnt to long for the L-body?

No wasn't too bad at all. It was a little longer than the stock cable, but I didnt' think it was bad, worked well to route through the intercooler pipe. If you can stag a p-body cable it might be a little shorter though.

If you have an Advance Auto Parts near by, they can order the EXACT cable you need. I did it for my Charger and Omni. I think it runs about 20 bux or so.

I went to their web site and found they dont have anything for an omni or charger GLHS, so I tried a shadow. They actually have a 89 Shadow Shelby listed, and it has a picture of the throttle cable:

While the subject of "Throttle Cables" is still up here, when doing the T2 conversion, do you have to replace the cable from the pedal to the TB or just a portion of it? I could not find any "clear" info about this, just the modifications like that were mentioned above.

Thanks!
Paul

Got one from a turbo Caravan on my Omni GLH Turbo. Works great and the length is fine.

Cool! We are going to try and make it down. Probably car less, but with baby in tow! ;)

Actually, I just looked on PartsAmerica.com (Advance's website) and the first throttle cable they list for an 87 Shelby Charger is the correct one for a GLHS.
Maybe you were looking somewhere else, or at something weird?

The part # is 16618 and is $24, and it's a Motormite part.

They do have to order it, but it only takes a day to get it.

In everyone's opinions - What do you thing I'd need for 85 Dodge 600 with the T2 conversion?

Whoops..Sorry. I meant "What would I need for the cable for the T2 conversion"? I saw a Rampage using a K car cable. Well, I have a K car - would the stock cable work?

"(I just saw your reply in the thread about the throttle cable)
Stuff I have:
One piece intake w/tb, exhaust manifold, fuel rail w/ fpr, 86 distributor, 87 Shelby Z LM, Spare LM for the pins, newer style cam cover.

Stuff I still need:

Awaiting arrival of: Free stock IC and possibly free 804 injectors, 10mm head bolts (I'm not planning on running tons of boost, just up to ~14, if that)"

Personally, I'd drive that 600 until it dies, THEN i'd upgrade.
