How necessary is it to have the rubber bushings in a stock bar? Can the bushings be removed, steel welded into the eyelets, then offset drill the holes for the sleeve to make the bar the correct length for a car that's been lowered? It would be a solid mount with a sleeve in it for the bolt vs the bushing with a sleeve in it.

Any thoughts?

I think it would make noise and clunk. For a racecar, i think it would work just fine!!

It is a race car...and a low buck one at that.

That would work, it just has to have freedom to pivot when the suspension moves up and down :thumb:

1st corner the wimpy stock bar will bend with no flex in the bushings. :)

why not jsut cut the bar and weld it back together at the proper length? that way you still have to good ends on it

Just box it in, it will be way stronger and trust us these do like to bend and break. I broke mine right in half before!

It would definitely be boxed in.

What would be sweet is a couple small coil overs welded into two bars mid span. Two bars so the car goes straight up and down. Never see one but my head says it'll work.

I think you may be envisioning a Watt's linkage, simialr to what's on the PT Crusier. It works VERY well...

As for the stock part, while I agree that it is weak an does flex a bit, and I have seen them buckled and such, I don't honestly know how that happens!

I ran my car VERY hard on the road course and I figured that if it was going to fail anywhere, that's where it would have, but it did just fine!

Now, I DID upgrade to the CS Racer tubular unit that does utilize Heim joints and such. It's a VERY nice peice, just make sure you get the bolts tight enough and they stay that way! The next parts in line that are weak at the locator braket and brace, both of which WILL be boxed on my car by the end of the summer....

Truth is, I have one on the car already, but I'm trying to create budget room for some things I'm adding to the car for the $2009 Challenge.

A Watts link has a vertical pivot point. I'm seeing a fixed center point (welded bracket) ... the struts/bars are connected to this and compress/pivot.

Here's a question, it's a race car, why are you even bothering with the wet noodle that is the stock bar? Why not get the CSracer bar? It's not that expensive.

Like I said, I have a CS bar, but I'm trying to create budget room for some things I'm adding to the car for the GRM $2009 Challenge.

CS Racer makes the bar in question. His name is Chris Still. He's on these forums, but is a pretty buisy person at times.

As far as streetability, *I* street drive it, however I've also accepted the fact that eventually I'm probably going to have to replace the hiem joints as they don't like all the dirt and crap from the street. I do plan to get some of the dust covers for them, just have to remember to do it! LOL

You justt have to get the dust covers that wull fit the joints on the bar. They are a "universal" fit for the different size joints.

As Jonny said, yes his rear bars will fit J-body cars.
