View Full Version : Tool to crimp CV Boot bands?

I'm replacing the boots on the Citroen-design equal-length halfshafts for my project car. The process to disassemble and clean the joint has been fairly straightforward so far, but I'm wondering how y'all crimp the new bands on the replacement boots? The ones in the kits I have are the 'ear-style' bands -- in other words, part of the band is shaped like an inverted 'U' that gets squeezed together to apply tension to the band.

Will a pair of end-cutters work?

There is a special tool that pulls them tight then crimps and cuts it. Most places rent the tool for free now. I know autozone has them, I would try them if they're in your area.

I'll check at AutoZone, but it doesn't appear to me that there's anything that needs to be cut. The OE bands were like this, but the replacement bands are not. From what I've seen, these replacement bands are more of a "GM-style" band than Chrysler OE.

Thanks for the reply.

There are a couple different styles, maybe I misunderstood what style you have, but either way they should have the tool to help you out.

Yeah, AutoZone has the tool. I got one from them myself a few years ago.
